Whats your turn off on a reborn?

I start at the back of the head, and angle on the way up, once I am over the ears and up the sides I start in the front and root around at an angle until all the hair goes into a natural swirl at the crown…if that makes sense.

I took some pictures to help…you can see the angle of the hair and if I keep going around and toward the crown it makes a perfect swirl. like the last picture (different baby, still working on this one)

It’s funny, I’m the opposite. I do the back first to get it over with because that is the boring part. Then I do the front because that is where all the fun is.

You must have more patience than me😁

This looks so awesome. How long does it take you to root the entire head?

It can take up to 3 weeks sometimes for me but it depends on the thickness, size of the head, and hair. Also due to my physical disability, and the time I spend homeschooling my kids, I sometimes cant root at all or only for a couple hours a day. I just started him last week so hes going quickly. The top of the head always takes forever it seems but I should be finished with him before Friday.

That’s what I always see, too.

Big, poochy lips on toddlers that resemble 20 somethings trying to look sexy.

Ha, they look upside down. Confession, I mindlessly did this once. I rooted a sleeping baby, glued the back, went in to automatic mode, wet the lashes and made them go up. The next morning I went in to check on the glue and reality hit. Mumbled to myself that I was an idiot and fixed them.

I don’t care for gaping mouths that are open any wider than Darrens. Subtle milk spots can be cute but I don’t like pimples that look like they belong on a teenagers face. I can’t recall ever seeing rooted eyebrows that looked appealing to me. Painted helmet-head is a turnoff, yes I know my own hair painting still needs a LOT of work. Painted hair with a stark round skin colored bald spot in the center of the swirl. Dark colors on the cupids bow that make a doll unintentionally look like a baby with cleft lip.

Babies with lips painted in a lipsticky red color. Lack of creasing and detail. Hair rooted far too thick and/or long for the age/size of the doll. Unnatural eye colors (bright blues and greens in a newborn…) Poorly rooted lashes (points straight up, wayyyy too thick/long, patchy rooting, rooted straight into the eye crease) Salon nails that are not realistically colored and far too shiny. Heavy/dark veins that aren’t blended into the skin tone and disappear abruptly. Babies that look like they got into moms blush (far too red and not blended) Mottling that sits on top of skin instead of being blended into it.

Bad/frizzy mohair. Clumpily rooted mohair. Hair that’s rooted from cattywampus angles that doesn’t resemble a natural growth pattern. Hair (painted or rooted) that doesn’t go to the natural hair line. Eyelids so red that it looks like the baby has pinkeye. Realistic babies that have a distinct greenish tinge, particularly on the face. Unnatural positioning in listing photos, several nearly identical photos in a listing.

Babies stuffed so full that their body resembles a turkey. Football shoulders. Overstuffed distorted faces. Poorly weighted and/or stiff babies that don’t flop into that natural newborn cuddle. And I am sure there are more that I just can’t think of right now.

Sheesh, I hadn’t realized that I have become so darn picky. Must be all of the beautiful dolls that are posted to the forum… I blame you excellent artists! :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s surprising how many people don’t like pimples ! And there still are a lot of reborns with them ! Somehow, some people may actually like it, or artists are going in the wrong way !

Many real babies have newborn acne. Some people like ultra realism on their reborns and they seem to sell regardless.
