First of all thanks for speaking kindly to her. I was taught and still believe you catch more flies with honey than vinegar … However that thing goes. The folks insulting her art and family are fueling the flames. I have a hard time buying that she was just trying to separate herself from china, a MONOLith country against a gal that’s painted 5 dolls. A normal new hobbyist doesn’t have such grandiose delusions. She reported the posts that etsy and ebay then took down. Now if that is indeed her true intention she should consider the predicament she’s put the rest of the community in. I think if someone could speak kindly to her and help her understand that backtracking and apologizing would work big wonders. I would actually gain a lot of respect for her then. Its okay to mess up. How you respond to your flub represents your true character.

You and I are on the same page. I can understand why she may have started this but the Etsy thing went over the line. I have been thinking about it for two days.

We know this:

She has not been around long, no one seems to know who she is, her work shows that she is still learning this artform.

She has not spoken up on any forum.

We see by some shared screenshots that she has not been kind to at least two people who inquired why they were booted off Etsy due to the trademark issue.

She has not addressed this formally, apologized, or changed anything with Etsy.

She has removed listings, comments, discussions, and messaging.

There are reports about other behavior but they are WOM, not documented and may not be whole truths, we can’t know for sure.

I also know what we should not do and that is:

Call her names.

Insult her or her family members.

Bully her.

Make up or embellish stories about her.

Decide for ourselves (without knowing her or hearing her side of the story) that she has bad intentions, is a bad person, and set out to hurt this community.

This doesn’t mean I am defending her I am just saying lets all calm down a little and see if she attempts to make this right. We have all put her in defense mode. People who feel backed into a corner don’t apologize they strike out to protect themselves.

She may need to sleep on it, talk to someone and decide what she wants to do.

If she decides to hold onto the trademark and fight, defend her right to the trademark and continue to roadblock artists from using the term “Reborn Baby Doll” I think she will find herself paying a lawyer, losing her business, and being shunned by this community.

If she openly apologized, tries to make amends, explain, lets the trademark go or specifically uses it for what she has said she claimed it for, and tries to integrate back into this community slowly I for one will be the first to say “hey we make mistakes, we know better, we do better, and I too make crappy eyebrows lets work this out”

Time will tell, but I think as long as we remain aggressive and show up with lit torches not much can happen that is positive.

As of right now, looks like she has removed all her listings from Ebay.

Yeah, she removed it, not long after I posted that comment

I just looked & there are comments on her pictures, but not the timeline on her page. They are recent, like posted in the last few hours.

Unless she could force eBay to remove the listing category (LOL) there is nothing stopping you to list; just list as OOAK baby doll. If people search for “reborn baby doll” they will still get your listing. Sadly they will also get all the other baby dolls, but for time being that is better than getting listings removed, which eBay will do because legally they do not have a choice. If they do not remove such listing she could sue them.

I am not sure about this, but I do not think that the fact her trademark is registered under “toys, sporting goods” is important; that is their category. Do they have categories for hand made crafts? I mean her trademark is not stopping us from reborning, we are just not allowed to use the term “reborn baby doll”. Do you remember the fight over Shabby Chic? Whil you could not call things shabby chic, you could certainly have shabby or chic anywhere you liked it.
