As a general rule, I do not like to use any white on my kits as it brings on opaqueness. However, these kit colors have gotten so awful lately that I ended up doing a light blue mixed with white on Alessandro to tone down the orange. I had to because my purple wash I did first just made him go more brown looking and that was not the look I wanted. That color did cancel the orange but it also did make the vinyl flat looking. I was obviously able to warm him back up and in the end he came out good. Still, I would have been much more happier with him had I not had to do that. I SO wish Cassie would go to a more neutral vinyl color.
Marita told me that Joyce (JoyDolls) no longer lets the sculptors dictate the vinyl color that they would prefer… Just one more “you get what you get and don’t throw a fit”.
Lovely. Quality keeps going down and prices keep going up.
I wish all the sculptors would start using only light vinyl. I HATE orange. I don’t even wear orange in my clothes. LOL! I think it’s nice in a sunset but not on dolly complexions. I just look at painting over the first white layers as if it’s just pale vinyl like BB used to have. I don’t notice too much increased opacity.
I wonder if this is why more kits are orange now. China is sticking it to us and saying, “You get orange vinyl and don’t complain.”
Knowing this now, about Alessandro being a very orangey kit, deters me completely from ordering it. I don’t feel like fighting an orange kit to be neutral lol
It is not as orange as some kits but it has a definite yellow/orange tone that comes through.
Remember when Bountiful Baby switched to the light vinyl and most people didn’t like it? Now, It’s what we all want. It’s so much easier to work with.
SO SO much easier to work with. You can build any complexion color you want from a nice neutral color like that.
I am thinking this yelow/orange we are getting now is leaning back more to the color of play dolls. Wondering if this is because they are pouring everything they make and put on market in China from the same mix now?
Great point! The Berenguers tend to be orange-ish. It’s probably more convenient for them to pour all in the same color. I wish they would stop. I really hate orange.
