What's one odd thing you use that's not in a typical reborn supply list?

I just got to thinking that while I’m ordering my supplies, it may be helpful to get any little gadgets that may be helpful to use in the craft that aren’t typical supplies that are usually listed as something that’s needed when reborning. I saw a cute little rooting pillow today on dollsbysandie.com and it sparked my interest. What are some other things that you find helpful?

Everytime I thrift I buy little appetizer dishes that have separations for my paints or ramekins. I also bought little plastic bottles with the tips you cut off for holding thinner and I’ve seen people buying puppy pads for painting on so thats next on my list.

Puppy pads are great and a lot less linty than paper towels, plus you can fold them over when not working. I keep a lint roller handy. I pounce my brushes and sponges on there before starting to paint to help get the lint off.

The rooting pillow from Sandie is nice but I found the head slipped too much. I got a great idea from Melissa George and use Playdoh in a plastic bag

The head doesn’t slip, for me anyway.

Now that is an awesome idea!

Hmm, neat idea. Now you have me wondering how to make some homemade playdoh and use it to keep the head warm too.

The only downside is you can smell it, and unless you like the smell of Playdoh, it’ll give you a “Playdoh High”. :joy:

I have the eye applicator and wax – not a necessity or even a need, probably, but it does reach into the head better than my hand. The finishing sponges that are tear shaped – I have purchased them at different places, drug stores, amazon. There is info on those in the spy glass above. image I have also purchased micro applicator brushes !image

from Amazon. They are tiny and can reach into very small crevices to help dab up excess paint. There are so many things. Lots of brushes that I didn’t necessarily need. Anyway, take a look in the spy glass and also on Amazon, just any place. I have learned so much on this forum. Even though I have not produced many babies, I have purchased a lot of things. I have the rooting pillow from Dolls by Sandie, I think. I also own a good many of the tutorials (ebook ones) that are on Dolls by Sandie. They are good tutorials on almost any subject. Well worth the money. I guess I could have saved my money, not bought all the kits I own, and the supplies I have purchased, and have just bought a few really well done dolls from some of the people on this forum who do such wonderful work. SIGH This is an addictive hobby. Yep.

Does it dry out? Can you reshape it based on a head size?

That’s the great thing about it, you can re-shape it over and over. As you turn the head, you can re-shape it each time. Mine hasn’t dried out, I have it double bagged.

Thank you! Now, if I would even find fragrant-less playdoh… :joy:

You have to make the Kool-aid playdoh that smells good.

Toothpicks are my hero😇. Im fighting a lint and fuzzies war with this little one🤪. His body seems to be staying tacky, and attracting lint🙄.

Yes…I panic without them.

I use disposable eye shadow applicators. They are great for smoothing out paint in small places like the inside of ears and mouths. I edge my mouths with them. Pour a little paint thinner on them and remove a little paint you didn’t want to put there. 100 of them for $8 bucks on Amazon.

@Jacelyn5440, what do you use the eye applicator and wax for? Going to search beauty blenders. I have a bunch of those!

I use travel neck pillow as my rooting pillow. Just clip two end together. You can make it tighter or looser, depending on a head.
