What the heck? I think Mary Ann Blick is possessed! UPDATE...Do you think I can find a Mary Ann Blick head?

Awww you’re taking all the fun out of this. I would need to go out and buy some orange juice though to use the vodka in. I only like screwdrivers made only with Absolute or Grey Goose!!

That’s what I’m finding on this kit…slick areas that don’t take color or the paint well at all. Those area’s are also the ones where the paint is coming off even after it has been cured. I just finished another Blick sculpt…Lucrecia… and it was a dream to do. If there is a problem with kits it seems to be only the Mary Ann sculpt.

YES!!! I was soooo excited to finally get and start to reborn my Haley Andrea and she has been a nightmare! She came with a boo boo leg that I had to wait for a replacement, then I’ve hit road blocks and painting blocks. Stripped her lips 3 times, I mean seriously! I’m falling out of love with her lol!

I have not got my Mary Ann yet, but I painted Tiffany and loved her vinyl. I hate to hear that so many are having trouble with her. I am looking forward to painting mine and hopefully I can make it work. I do always seal my kits first and also add a little paint adhesion medium to my paint mix if I need to (I paint with air dry).

I stripped my Mary Anne today. The base coats seem to be going on much better since I did. I feel much better about her today. She was looking dirty to me before I stripped her. Now she’s back to nice clean vinyl and looks so much prettier to me.

Update! I talked with Linda at Dolls so real… YES, you all are right in assuming something was different with the vinyl. She had changed manufacturers !!! Linda is calling Natali and will get back to me with more info:-)

Thank you Nikki! So the change in the vinyl might be whats causing a problem with painting her. I’m curious to know what Natali will say. Please let me know if your hear anything. You’re Awesome!! Thanks again!!

I am painting Mary Ann. I found that if you apply several flesh coats first you have a base for all other layers to adhere to. Just be sure and use either distilled linseed oil ( a few drops added to flesh mixture) or I mix my flesh colors with Sansodor medium. That way there is no chalkiness. My subsequent layers of paint are going on great.

I’ve always done a coat of complexion as the base coat and its always worked out great for me until Mary Ann. What do you use for the base sealing medium. I always seal my babies but hate the texture that matte varnish leaves so I started making a mixture of 3/4 satin varnish and 1/4 matte and a dab of baby skin for some color. It still comes out a little grainy but not as bad as the straight matte varnish alone. I tried using just Satin varnish on a couple of babies but they came out way too shiny…but they did have a soft silky texture to the vinyl. Mary Ann is now done except for rooting her hair…I did already root her lashes and put her eyes on. I ordered my Slumberland mohair for her over 2 weeks ago and its still not here! Grrrrrrrrrrr

@DDDolly should I get the golden satin or the folk art?

It seems to me like the folk art as a first layer would be able to be scratched off. It’s on top on the vinyl , not soaked( baked) in. How does this work?
