Has anyone here ever had a kit that they loved and couldn’t wait to reborn then have it turn into a nightmare?? I pre-ordered Mary Ann Blick and was lucky to get her before she sold out. I was thrilled and couldn’t wait for her to arrive. I got her last week and couldn’t wait to start on her but I had to finish my Lucrecia first. I started reborning Mary Ann about 5 days ago and its been nothing but a struggle from the very beginning!! For some reason she didn’t take the paint well…then I reblushed her 3 times before her color looked right…then I redid her lips and nails 3 or 4 to times to get them to look decent…then tonight I did her eyebrows and had to redo them a bunch of times because they just weren’t coming out right…then after I used my paint eraser and some thinner on her brows to redo them the paint had come off and the vinyl was a weird color underneath from the pencils I used to draw the brows in. After numerous times redoing them I settled for some not so great brows but didn’t want to do anymore damage to the paint underneath…then I decided that maybe if I popped her eyes in temporarily they might distract from her brows…her kit calls for 20mm eyes so I put in beautiful brown German glass Lausha eyes and they don’t fit right they tend to drop back like the socket is too big or something…lastly I was cleaning up my studio work table and noticed that some of the paint on the back of her neck had rubbed off somehow!!! I have spent so many hours redoing this kit only to hit roadblock after roadblock. I wanted this kit so bad and now reborning her is turning into a stressful and frustrating event. I’m afraid to see whats going to happen when I start rooting her…which will be tomorrow hopefully. Oh that’s another thing. I ordered curly brown yearling mohair for her from Slumberland over 2 weeks ago and it still hasn’t arrived. I swear Mary Ann is possessed
Can anyone tell me why her paint is rubbing off? I use GHSP’s and bake at 265 for 8 minutes in a Nuwave oven. I have never had this problem before with any other kits. Did anyone else buy Mary Ann and if so have you started her yet? I’m curious to know if anyone is having a problem with their kit. I’m embarrassed to even show these pictures…
*******UPDATE… Here’s a pic of my Mary Ann all painted and ready too root. I had problems with the paint coming off the brow bone when I was doing her eyebrows. Then it stained the vinyl on the brow bone. Her brows are so horrible, I could cry. I’m hoping against hope that I can find just a Mary Ann head to redo her. I don’t think she can be stripped because I’ve already baked her and glued her eyes and rooted lashes in.

I’m sorry. I have really been struggling with my Madison kit. I can relate. Some kits just don’t take the paint like others. This one seems super porous, and “thirsty” and I’ve had to strip some smudgy paint. You’re not alone in your struggle, but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating. Please post some pics. I bet she is still beautiful!!

Thanks for letting me know that I’m not alone. Even though your doing Madison and not Mary Ann both dolls sound like little monsters out to drive us crazy!! I’ll post some pix tomorrow for you.

My Saskia was being a problem child lol She’s on “vacation” now and I can’t wait to get her back. I hope little Mary Ann starts behaving for you soon!

I am working on her right now, and I am having the same sort of problems. She takes paint unevenly, and her complexion is aweful no matter what I do. I may have to strip her. I am floundering around and not getting anywhere. This is two in a row for me that are just not working. If my first air dry had gone like this, I would have blamed the paints. I’ll just soldier on and see what happens tomorrow. I really love the kit too.

When I have issues with paint sticking I will put a thin layer of matte on them bake it a few times let cool and try again never keep putting more layers on if your having issues with it sticking other wise you could rub it off all the way down to the layer that did not cure correctly.

Amy I am sitting here laughing my butt off… I was looking for crossed fingers to put with my post above and saw what I thought were crossed fingers at least that’s how it looked to me without my glasses on. Luckily I double checked and saw it was actually a hand with the middle finger up. I am so glad that I didn’t sent that to you by mistake. I sat here and laughed myself silly when I realized what it actually was!!
I can not believe that they have a middle finger icon but not crossed fingers!!!

That’s funny! My text gets changed quite a bit and I have to fix things quickly.

My paint sticks, but in patches. She has purple blotches on her that look like bruises right now.

Oh no Helen. That doesn’t sound good. I wonder if it’s from the mold.

Oh no…I’m sorry to hear that your Mary Ann is giving you problems too. I mixed my paints the same way I did for other kits but for some reason the colors don’t come out right once I apply the paint to her. I’m curious to see if anyone else is having the same problems. I too really do love the kit.

I don’t really know what it’s from. I didn’t seal the kit because so many people said I didn’t have to with air dry. It worked fine on a BB kit I did, but not on this one. I think I’ll just strip her. I hate doing kits when I don’t like how they are coming out. What’s the fastest way to strip air dry? Anybody know?

Oh my…that sounds like it might be a problem with the Mary Ann kits. That might be why my MA has paint coming off in just certain areas…

There are so many variables though. Maybe I mixed the paint wrong. Maybe I chose my colors wrong… etc. etc. I’m still an air dry newbie afterall.
