Were the cotton balls there to “plug” the limbs? Or were plugs used?
I use a finer bead in the limbs but always use plugs unless they dont fit… I use regular polyfil in the limbs and head. Pouch (thick stockings doubled) of Mil 3 (size off Bountiful Babies beads) in the head and torso. And cluster stuff in the torso. I have used a cotton ball at the plug area if a plug does not work then added moleskin over the opening. Just because the cotton ball is denser and can be a better plug than normal polyfil. I have also rolled strips of moleskin to make a plug… probably looks funny if the doll was opened but I dont want any beads seeping out over time. lol

There were no plugs, moleskin, or covers of any kind. The cotton balls were used straight on top of the weighting material to fill the limbs, then nothing else. This explains why the looses material was inside the body and all through the polyfil.

Looks like glass beads to me. Never had angel silk but it looks like high quality fill as well so perhaps a grovelling apology to the artist is needed.

The top pics were her own materials compared to what was used. In the comments she added a picture of the cotton balls.

I only use soft toy filling to stop the glass beads coming out the limbs and have never had an issue. I think the artist used too fine glass beads and all artists i know dont use glass beads at all if for a child. Maybe if you buy your daughter another you could ask for the glass beads to be removed.

If you’re unhappy with it why don’t you put it back together and return it for a full refund?

My complaint to her was not on her workmanship. It was that she stated her glass beads were the Bountiful Baby brand, and claimed it was angelsilk stuffing all throughout the body. It was the dishonesty I was upset about. It doesn’t matter to me what an artist uses, as long as they disclose it to the customer. I thought I was making a decision based on what I thought was best for my daughter, and it turned out to be a dusty mess.

My daughter is quite attached to the doll. I don’t want to cause hardship on the seller. Her workmanship tells me she is fairly new. I did not complain to her about that. I was just telling everyone so they could see the whole picture. I have asked her for a refund in the amount to replace the beads and the polyfil.

I hope everyone understands that I am not trying to be difficult. I hate causing turmoil but I really do care about what materials were used, because I don’t want anyone inhaling the dust coming off of this doll. I am an artist myself and I understand it is all trial an error. I just believe in honesty and full disclosure. The seller is not on this forum. I think all of you are excellent examples of artists and merchants. The point being, if I ever buy another, rather than make it myself, it would be from another artist on this forum, that believes in honesty and integrity, rather than making a quick buck. I feel a little swindled, and I’m sorry if that came off as attacking the artist. I have not said anything nasty to her. I don’t want to discourage her, but I want her to make sure she is selling the product she claims to be.

@anon77773884 The doll is as cute as a button. Wonderfully painted.

UPDATE: We are working on a solution at the moment, but I also sent her this, just so she can hopefully learn for the next doll. She did in fact tell me it was her first.

Where the cotton balls used inside the body as well or regular polyfil?

No there was regular polyfil in the body with a bunch of the weighting mixed in. There were also about a dozen cotton balls that spilled into the body.

I find it rather annoying as an artist to have work picked apart like this. She used polyfil and glass beads. Cotton balls is a bit odd but if they are new and clean i dont see much difference between them and polyfil. Imo.
Its not like she stuffed it with something gross.

I’m sorry if you think it’s annoying, but we should all be held accountable as artists. If you sold a doll and filled it with something completely different than the description, and one or the arms had emptied out into the body, I would expect you to get a bad review. I did not even leave a negative review, but I did take it up with her. She did admit that what she put into it was not the same as what she had stated. I was asking for advice on how to approach it. I did not say who she was or drag her through the mud like you are implying.

I paid about 250 for her.

@Alypants If that was her first doll and she even drill the nostrils, she did an amazing job on her judging by your posted picture.

We came to an excellent agreement to understand what the others intentions were. Hers were not bad intentions, she just wrongfully labeled her products. Mine were not bad either. I was trying to protect my daughter from inhaling dust, which is why I wanted the doll glass beads. We ended the conversation with sharing some of our work with each other and even shared suggestions.

Yes. It is an excellent job. I told her that.

This post has turned slightly negative and that was not my intention. However, the seller remained positive and had she said something along the lines of “its poly and glass beads, so what” we may not have came to an agreement. It’s great that some of you defended a fellow artist. Just make sure you are also promoting honesty and good business.
