Weight talk

Hi ladies, good morning depending on where you are at. First don’t use the E 6000 for glueing eye lashes. I learned my lesson. 2 question’s. When you add weight to your dolls, do you use the glass beads or the poly pellets ? Okay I filled my doll up to the knees with glass and filled the arms with glass up to the elbow. I made a small bag for the head. My girl friend picked up up a limb and said it’s two heavy. I also noticed the Polly fill adds alot of weight. Should I use the Polly pellets instead ? I’m not getting it. I know I’m going to have to buy a scale or I already have one in the shed.

I think the standard is what you did, glass up to knees or elbows, stuff rest of limb with polyfil. Polyfil shouldn’t add much per limb though, weight wise. If you want a lighter doll you can fill up to the wrist and ankle with glass. Poly pellets are better in the bodies because you can’t feel them as easily as you can in the limbs. I know @Shara uses just poly pellets to weight her dolls so maybe she can chime in with how best to use them. I’ve only used them to weight bodies of babies that were meant for kiddos.

For newborns, I fill to the knees and elbows with glass beads then stuff with polyfil. I put pouches of glass beads, surrounded by polyfil, in the body and head. I use glass beads in the limbs and head, and polypellets in the bodies, of micro preemies so they’re less stiff and pose better. For toddlers, I fill the arms and legs halfway to the knees and elbows and put the majority of the weight in the body. Sometimes individual parts can feel heavy but when you put the baby together it feels realistic.

Thank you. Maybe less Polly fill.

Like @RosieCait mentioned I use poly pellets in my limbs all the way then a bit of polyfil before inserting the cap. I use a new white cotton sock to fill with poly pellets for inside the body. If I want it heavier I add a few clear glass decorative vase fillers from the Dollar tree and add in the body. Same for the head. Then a bit of poly fill around sock, not stuffing full as I like my bodies on the floppy, pose able side. I consistently get mine to weigh between 4 - 6 lbs depending on the kit size. I use E600 for my magnets as well as eyelashes.

Uhoh @Mitzi56 what happened with the lashes?

What kit are you working on? Open eye or closed?

I fill my limbs to the knee and elbow with glass beads and firmly stuff the rest with poly fill. When done my babies are about 5lbsish

Hi sweetie, I hope you and your hubby, family are safe. Yes, I tried to glue lashes with the E6000 glue. Lesson learned. I won’t be doing that ever again. I just need to learn to root. I bought the tools for it. I also bought Peruvian, virgin hair. I bought it straight and the I thought I should have bought mojair. I have no clue on what to get. I just know if I use it for eyelashes, they will be too straight. Well, I’m here all day, so please chat me up. I’m working on a new baby, Rina, from bountiful. I feel a little confident about starting this baby. It’s because all of you are supportive. I’m also keeping my 1st baby as a mouse. Kelly, it was wiered, when I finished her, I started talking to her. Crazy, huh ?.

How heavy is ‘too heavy’? A complete reborn of 0-3 month should weight around 5 lb. I use only glass beads. Limbs like you did - up to elbows and knees. One pouch in the body closer to the bumps and kind of in the middle of the torso (app. 600 g), one small pouch in the shoulders area, one ouch in the head (app. 300 g).

Polyfill does not weigh that much.

Someone is actually posted a formula here on the forum:

Weight distrubution - good weight is the length in inches x 3.5oz
Head - 25%
Arms - 3 % each
Legs - 10% each
Torso - 51%

That’s the formula I use! I think it was from Kim’s Custom reborns. Almost all of mine end up being about 5 pounds when they’re done.

I talk to mine all the time. I’m not sure what’s weirder, talking to them or myself. Sometimes my husband answers lol

Can you share a picture? I have no idea what Peruvian virgin hair is :flushed:. Do you have any test parts where you could get a feel for rooting?

I’m looking forward to seeing your progress on Rina :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:. I’m Working on Darren and Alexa today. I’m retrying to keep them pretty fair skinned. I have a vision of how I want them
To look lol, so we will see how it goes!
