Oh how very awful! I have looked at it a couple times and considered adding Stripe but for some reason just never felt comfortable with it. Now I am glad I did not!
Yeah, there’s no way most businesses could ever contact all past customers. People move, may not be easy to find, etc. And if she wanted to get all the dolls back, there’s no guarantee the customers would cooperate and no guarantee that they dolls would even be in good shape. Some of them may have sold their doll. This sounds very criminal.
And, if you had $14,000 in transactions, isn’t that enough to show that you are a legit business with satisfied customers?
I was so terrified reading this as it unfolded. I have stripe, which I only opened when reborns took the other payment options away as I don’t use PayPal. I’ve had nothing but issues. They say they take 3% for credit card transactions, 6% for afterpay. I was getting charged about 15% for each transaction, and there is no customer support at all. Only a chat bot who will keep repeating and linking you to articles.
Last night i got an email saying they needed to verify my identity, this is after numerous transactions totaling about 10k over the last several months. I followed their directions uploaded pics of my driver’s license front and back and then they take 3 selfies. My identity verification failed, their facial recognition software could not verify my face matched my driver’s license! You can’t redo it or go back, it kicked me out immediately. I got a follow up email saying they will let me know in up to 5 business days if they decide to close my account or not. With a little blurb about if they choose to close it, ALL transactions in my history will be refunded. I am also awaiting a payout, which is now not coming.
There is no way for me to add info for their review process, contact them or anything. A friend found a phone number for me, it tells you to go to their website. If they close my account and refund all my past customers I’ll be devastated financially! I’ve never had a chargeback with any payment platform, have never had a negative review, no issues at all. I can’t even view my transactions to try to get customer info in case they do try to refund everyone so I could beg them to give me the money back. My account is 100% on lock down. Why would they allow me to use the platform for so long without verification if it’s required??
I did message Dave and posted on the reborns forum about it. Dave says he will eventually be adding square, which is my main payment processor so I’m happy about that, but that he’ll never add back our ability to invoice. He doesn’t want people taking cash app, zelle, etc… but in the meantime I won’t be able to list there anymore as I won’t be using stripe or paypal. Even if they keep my account open, there’s no way I’m ever using it again, with the constant fear that at any time they can choose to just take all my year to date earnings for any reason they choose.
Oh no! Not you too! I keep hearing similar stories over and over. Can you close your bank account so they have no way to get hold of your money? Maybe talk to your bank and tell them what’s going on. This is flat out theft.
I could close my account however the account i have linked is my business checking account through square. Stripes policies say if they can’t take the funds they will sue you and will report to some merchant thing, i can’t remember what they call it but it would cause me to never be able to open another merchant account anywhere and i would likely lose my square account as well if they got the report. I don’t have 10k so I honestly have no clue what to do or what I’m going to do if this happens. It would really be me losing 20k, having to pay stripe 10k and 10k in merchandise being gone for free. In trying not to freak out, but I really am! I don’t know how they could decide to keep my account open when the only info they are considering is my failed ID verification. I don’t even know how that happened either! My driver’s license photo is a totally unflattering realistic pic of how i look and was taken very recenty!
Is there a reason you don’t use PayPal? It’s simple with reasonable fees.
Dave’s eliminating invoicing? I always invoice my customers because I charge actual shipping costs and I don’t know what they’ll be until I know where the package is going.
You don’t owe Stripe any money. They’re not going to sue you when what they’re doing is most likely illegal and a scam. I think you should close the account ASAP and let your bank know what’s happening. If it’s linked to your business checking account they may be able to get into that, too. File an online fraud complaint with the Department of Consumer Affairs.
There is, several years ago my husband and I used it for an ebay business that was very successful. We had our account for at least 4-5 years. We had never had a chargeback or any issues at all. Paypal randomly refunded my last 3 sales and then closed my account with over $12k in it. I spoke to supervisors multiple times, they kept saying they didn’t know why it was closed, I had no issues or violations so they believed it was in error, but would not re-open it. They were supposed to send a check for the balance within 180 days. They never did, it was a huge deal, I finally got my funds back but only after hiring an attorney and it took over 12 months. I hear so many stories all the time from artists dealing with chargebacks for buyers remorse and that paypal almost always sides with the buyers or randomly holding funds and closing accounts. Those things combined make me very sure that I will never use them again. I’ve had square for over 6 years and have never had a single issue or know anyone that has, so want to stick with them.
This is too weird that these random refunds have happened to you more than once with different companies. I just don’t know what to say.
Yeah, he already did a while back, the only options now for payments are instant payments via PayPal or stripe.
Due to medical issues, I haven’t listed for a long time. How do you keep track of who the payments were from and what they were for? I don’t mind having only PayPal as a payment option because people can use other payments through them, but not being able to invoice is a problem for me. I’ve just started painting again, and now I don’t know how it all works.
The buyer has to contact you (if they need payments) and you can invoice them through paypal and email. But it doesnt “count” as a sale through the reborns site and they will not be able to leave a review there
I know! It’s crazy! I don’t get it, a quick Google search showed me that this is very common with stripe. Small businesses have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars and been out all the products they shipped, forced to file bankruptcy and chose up shop. At least when paypal refunded it was only the 3 transactions from that day, ones I hadn’t shipped yet, not my entire purchase history. I see that there is a large class action lawsuit being filed against stripe. I thought this had to be illegal, but everything I’m reading says they are doing it with a loophole for fraud prevention.
There’s just a buy now button, so the customer will click it pay and then you’ll get an order notification from reborns that says what item they paid for and where to ship. I list on reborns and my own website, my own site works pretty much the same, they just add the baby to their cart, checkout and i get the order notification. So I know exactly who is going where and what they paid. On square they can pay with credit cards, afterpay, cash app, etc… but it’s all backend stuff, I just get the payment and order notifications. I also only usually complete 2 babies every couple of months so I don’t have a huge inventory where I would get confused. I do invoice custom orders still, just through square, but I don’t have those listed on reborns where someone could order one
IMO Dave should not offer Stripe anymore - nothing but devastating problems for sellers.
I can’t comments on reborns as my monthly membership ended yesterday.
But in a month I sold 6 dolls and 4 kits and no one said that they can’t/ don’t want to pay with PayPal.
Sounds like a BIG STRIPE FRAUD!
On Reborns you can see all transactions under Orders (payment amounts, when it was delivered if you add tracking, how many purchases your buyer completed on the site, etc).
