Stand alone air fryer/oven

Hello!
All you guys with stand alone air fryers or convectional ovens, to bake your babies, (LOL)… what size do you have? I am going to buy one but not sure how big I should get. I have a gas oven, and I’m too nervous to use it for my reborns since they can fluctuate in temperature.
I also welcome and would love any tips, since I’m brand new to the reborn hobby, on how you bake your parts… Using a towel, temperature, etc. And once the head is stuffed or rooted, can you add paint and bake them after? Or would it be too hot for the mohair or polyfil?

(And o, this pictured, is 5.3 qrts is on sale right now at Kohls! They actually have their black Friday deals going on already online, and you can pick up in store.)

Thanks!

I do not use this kind of paint I use air dry but this is not the kind of oven that I have seen people use on this forum . As in this post here on the forum http://discourse.bountifulbaby.com/t/i-got-an-oven-replacement-for-nuwave/62125/2

No. Dont use that. Get a New wave. And make sure to get an extender ring.
I use an off brand from Home Depot that’s glass with a metal extender ring

Extender ring? Why shouldn’t I use this? It has a low temp

It’s the same as a nuwave

It does use the same technology as a convention oven but I would be nervous using it as it seems very small and you can’t see what’s going on inside. I use a countertop

I use this exact one. It’s VERY large on the inside. $49 currently

Several reasons.

  1. you can’t see inside. You need to be able to monitor the kits as they bake so they dont melt. Trust me. Temp fluctuations can ruin a kit in seconds.

  2. I dont even think a sculpt would fit in that without touching the top or sides. Again. Melted kits.

Get this.

Or one like it. And an external thermometer.

Don’t try to go cheaper with this art. You can ruin a very expensive kit in seconds. I would hate to see that happen. :purple_heart: invest in the right stuff like the oven. It will save you in the long run.

You definitely want to get a Nuwave with the extender ring (makes the oven taller). you need to be able to see inside the oven while baking to monitor progress and the ring is necessary to keep heating elements away from the kit to prevent burns and melting. Also get an external thermometer and put that in the oven - you’ll know if one of the thermometers breaks rather than finding out by melting a kit.

You want to bake at roughly 265 degrees - but no lower - for about 7 minutes. Some people go higher and some people use a little less or more time, but be very careful not to melt your kit, it is easier than you think!! Don’t let the kit touch theedges of the oven at all, it will deform the kit in the heat. And you can bake a rooted head as long as you wrap a wet towel around the mohair first, but it’s not exactly recommended.

And, good thinking on not using your home oven. The fumes from vinyl will stick around in your oven and get into your food. It is not at all safe to cook food in the same oven as you bake reborn parts in!!

Wow thanks. Now I see the difference. This is why I asked. I didn’t even know what words to use to search. Convention oven? Glass? Lol

Thank you soooo much. I have seen lower temps mentioned. I saw this link in another chat on here

Is less than what I bought, extender ring, etc. ■■■■ it looks so fancy I might want to cook a rotisserie in it instead! Lol
You guys are great. Thanks for the tip on the mohair

Save yourself a lot of heartache and get a NuWave oven with extender ring. They are definitely the BEST oven for reborning. Many others have started with the less expensive ovens and have wound up with the NuWave ovens in the end and are NEVER sorry. Save money in the long run, get the NuWave right from the start!!!

What are you referring to with lower temperatures? Remember that Genesis needs to cure at 265 F for 8 minutes.

I use that kind. If you get it, make sure you get a thermometer to regulate the right temp. I have to set mine at 310 on the dial to get mine to go to 265 by 8 mins. If I were to do it again, I would pay the extra for a nuwave. They are bigger and more accurate temp.

Do you use a towel on the bottom? Or how do you set the parts inside? The short shelf or tall one? And you use the extender ring I’m assuming? Thanks for these tips btw. I’m SOOOO excited to get started. I’m brand new to the hobby

I have read 250, and 180 for other things, I don’t remember exactly what for. And cooked longer. Maybe for touch ups. My memory sucks but I’m pretty sure about the temps. I’m going to buy a thermometer. Do I want the kind you stick in turkeys?
