Silicon Babies that are safe to buy?

So, I think I really want a full body silicon baby. The thing is, I don’t know what any of the vinyl kits look like. I really do not want to buy a silicon baby that was made from a vinyl kit. I have this concern now because I was looking through YouTube and saw a video where a lady cut up a silicon baby (so hard to watch I didn’t finish it.) She did that because apparently people are taking these sculpts that are made into vinyl blanks and making silicon babies with them. I really want a silicon baby but I refuse to give thousands of dollars to someone who stole the design from someone else. Is there some kind of search I could do to find out if a silicone baby is original?

It’s getting harder and harder to know especially if your not familiar like me! What I would do is research the available kits say through macphersons and try to find a reputable artist to paint it for you. Definitely ask for referrals

I suggest researching about silicones first. make sure the maintenance is something you are up for, tearing, stickiness, matting, etc.
Research really good silicone painters. A lot of silicones are not well done.

Jennie Lee
Susan Gibbs

Reborn Kisses and Art dolls
Blissful Babies by Melanie Math
Laurie Sullivan Roy

Just to name a few that I like

Thank you! My husband owns other silicon things so he’s familiar with the maintenance for them. He has some amazing animatronics for Halloween. He has to put powder and something else on his to keep them kept up. He also stores them in some for special boxes. Idk, I can ask him or research it. Idk if his are the same kind of silicon or not.

Edit: I’m scarred for life!!! Do NOT search “silicone doll maintenance.” Wow…

So I can buy a kit and ask someone to paint it? I thought that might be a bit like taking food to a restaurant and asking them to cook it. Lol!!

Oh no! Never google silicone anything really… eeek.

Macphersons has a silicone kit site. But not all painters can paint silicone or paint it well. I would get an artist first before having the doll ordered.

Make sure you read all the info. I think some photos might be of the vinyl kits. some of them came out in vinyl then the sculptor decided they wanted silicone versions made.

I’ll start with the list you put up. I’m not ready to jump into an investment quite as large as a silicone baby yet. I just wanted to look at some examples from good artists while I try to decide if I want a cloth and vinyl, silicone and cloth, or a full body silicone baby.

I think as long as it is a reputable kit yes. Macphersons.com sells some, not sure if they are full body or not. Might give you an idea of what you are looking for

Yay!!! someone with a wealth of knowledge to the rescue to steer you in the right direction!!! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

irresistables.com and macpersoncrafts.com both have full bodied, unpainted silicone dolls. Make sure you click on ones you like. The prices under them are deposits unless they’re mini babies.

Are you ready to pay several thousand dollars?

In the beginning I wanted a full silicon doll. So, I started searching and found different artists sites. I can’t remember the artist’s name, but one of them wrote back to me and told me a few facts about those dolls. I have appreciated that so much! She did tell me that in order to get a well made silicon doll, I would have to pay in the thousands. Not really like 1,000 or 2,000 – but really up in the thousands. I only have her world for it, but I took her advice. I decided I didn’t REALLY want a silicon doll after all. LOL I also learned more about the upkeep and I know I would never do all that on a regular basis. So, they are for me. But, I hope you find the one for you and that you get it.

Yes. I saw the prices of them. Art is not cheap. Some of it is in the eye of the collector but most of it is in the cost of material and time it takes. I’ve commissioned various art pieces before but never a baby. If I do get a silicone baby, I’m looking at a $2,000 to $4,000 budget. If I find a spectacular one, perhaps I’d be willing to spend more. Of course if there is an amazing silicone baby out there less than $2,000 I’m not going to refuse it ya know.

I’m not firmly decided on silicone. I mean, if I get a vinyl baby and love it, $4,000 could get me several GREAT babies and a started nursery room. Js. Lol!!

Don’t forget Izzy’s sculpts. Laurie Sullivan Roy has excellent prices and cute sculpts if you’re just starting out. BTW a good silicone that has been matted properly will not get sticky unless it’s given multiple baths or taken swimming…you get what I mean.

Oh, so you don’t have to keep doing it periodically?

I just finished painting a MacPhersons silicone for someone. My slots are all full for now.
