Yeah, like Newborn Crystal.

I actually have a newborn crystal that needs to be stripped. She was such a sweet kit. I wish they still made her.

This kit just came out like this last month and it’s already copied :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: Sara by Ebtehal Abdul.

I saw this on facebook. Not sure if scammer or not but seems fishy. I commented that silicone vinyl is not a thing and they just liked it and did nothing.

Look at how hideous they have made April! Ugh! Gross. And the description has China all over it. Yeah, give this doll to “your lovers.”

I sure wouldn’t mind if a lover gave me a reborn doll, lol!

This is a scam nursery set up.
The avatar is babyclon that is actually silicone from babyclon, the scammers from what I’ve seen send a ivita vinyl avatar when it’s ordered.
And the April obviously are fakes made of cheap vinyl.
There are tons of these people on FB, mercari, insta, twitter etc

How can you tell the difference between fake and real babies by the pictures sold on reborns if they are painted well? People can put the wrong body on a kit without knowing. I’ve got floating bodies laying around with no labels and can’t remember what size they are etc. unless a collector knows about fake kits they really won’t know to look for differences like sizes etc. wouldn’t the vinyl be the same as what we are paying full price for since it is made in China? I’ve said this before and I’ll tell the story again here because it’s really by chance that I didn’t end up buying stolen sculpts from wish & Ali express when I first started. My husband was the one who found bountiful baby when I was looking for a doll for my studio (a move I’m sure he regrets now lol) it was almost two years ago and bountiful baby was having a sale so a lot of their kits were cheap. I had no way of knowing that bountiful baby made their own sculpts. I didn’t know the art of bringing a vinyl doll to life was called reborning. For the longest time I had no clue about artists who sculpted babies from clay and had the kits produced and sold through sites like macphersons and irristables truborns dolls by sandi etc “not a clue”.

It wasn’t until I found the forum and started asking questions about the process did I learn.

If I hadn’t found the forum and bountiful babies kits weren’t cheaper on sale than AliExpress with faster shipping there is a good chance I would be reborning stolen kits from China. Because otherwise I just wouldn’t have known it was wrong. I’m still not really selling so that’s not the issue. The issue is people unknowingly supporting the stolen sculpts by buying the kits because they don’t know any better.

I did tons of research before I started and I’m still clueless!

I think education is a huge factor. Also making affordable sculpts available for beginning artists so they aren’t buying stolen sculpts from China. Like @ineke1957 said. Because that was almost me. I could have blissfully had a nursery full of illegal babies if it weren’t for bountiful babies great sales cause I am a bargain hunter.

Has anyone made a video or IG post about the differences between real sculpts and stolen? Visually? Using a stolen sculpt and a real sculpt? Educating people?

I’m tempted but wouldn’t that make me a bad guy? By purchasing an illegal copy to show? Personally I’d love to see the difference up close. I’d love a table at ROSE or another doll show to show the sculpts laid out next to each other. (They probably wouldn’t let me in the door with fake sculpts) Make a game of it to see if everyone could spot the difference. I’d love to see a breakdown of the chemicals used in real vs fake. I’m sure these things would still not sway some artists who are just out there to turn a quick buck. But collectors might care if they are investing in something that is not going to hold its value.

Sorry this is so long winded but I feel bad for those who really don’t know they are part of the problem and would love to know how to spot a fake artist painted kit on reborns

I think the difference is you learned and have respect for the art and sculptors and choose to stay supportive of legit kits.

Others learn and choose to buy fakes anyways.

The issue isnt the new comers accidentally buying fakes. It is the ones who know and buy anyways :frowning:

Personally I would give up reborning and do something else for a hobby if legit kits became unavailable. I have no desire to buy any fakes.
I think I would probably start sculpting more and see how molding and pouring my own sculpts goes. But then there are health issues with those processes too, so I am not sure

It would be very useful to get to see them side by side to compare. I saw on Facebook a post with two kits, one fake and one legit, both looks very similar up to the sculptor’s name on yhe neck. Both with COA.
I am afraid now to buy a kit from someone, as I have no way to be sure it’s a legit one.
I have soon learn to stay away from eBay, amazone and AliExpress, but from someone who sell their extra kits ?
I tought about buying some fake ones for a video showing the differences as it could be very useful but I don’t want to encourage the scammers.

In case y’all have been living under a rock, here’s the latest drama. Summary…Tsybina Natalia reborned a fake April. When she was called out about it, she got very defensive and denied the whole thing. She said her daughter did it. Then when that didn’t work, she apologized to Joanna K. But several are calling for a blacklist for future prototypes.

Yes I have read that. I have put it on my wall. It’s disgusting.

So sad.
Ugh.

ARTISTS AND BUYERS ALIKE;
DO your research BEFORE buying!

Do not buy a kit without looking it up.
Do not buy a reborn/silicone without looking up the kit, artist and sculptor.

Did the listing mention that it was a fake? Or how did they recognize it as a fake? I always have a hard time telling the difference.
