Pencil drawn hair

I think if we ask for someone’s opinion then we should be willing to take honest criticism. But if we are not asking then I don’t think is necessary.

Oh believe me I have had some go bright orange! I think Espresso and chocolate brown does! It’s just awful!!

Yes, I bake (set) my Prisma and then also seal it with varnish and bake again.

Don’t you have problems with it turning orange? When I use prisma I just seal with air dry sealer. Never had an issue with it coming off after the sealer is dry.

No. I just don’t use the colors that tend to go orange

When I first started painting hair you were my inspiration. I thought if I can get there I will be happy. Your babies are always so beautiful. I am a Cierra super fan.

I think asking for, giving, and accepting critique has always been a tender issue here.

In my opinion if you want to grow you will need to ask your peers for critique at some point. A lot of people have a mean inner critic that tells them over and over that they are not good enough, and there are some people that kinda amaze themselves and think they are ready for prime time when they are still in progress.

There is a difference between I think I have this, I am not sure I have this, and I am never going to get this. The thing is it is a little feedback makes a big difference. You can support, teach, or crush someone with a few words.

If giving feedback you should know the difference between preference, technique, and style.
You also need to be able to convey what you are saying in a helpful and supportive way. Remember this person is making themselves vulnerable in order to learn and grow.

If you are asking for feedback put your ego in your pocket and listen. This isn’t personal, not all the feedback you get will be helpful, some may sting a little. Take what you need, it will resonate. You know where you struggle, you know what your goal is. Not everyone offering feedback will understand your vibe, appreciate your style, that is ok, that information is useful too.

If you get “that is cute” that may mean the person appreciates the effort, thinks it is good enough and/or may not feel confident or skilled enough to give the level of feedback you need.

Don’t ask for feedback if all you are looking for is stroking. That isn’t fair to anyone.

Didn’t mean to hijack the thread.

I like penciled hair if the person is skilled and understands how to create depth. Penciled hair is perfect for baby hairs, and for very barely there space hair. I use it for eyebrows when I want blond or very light brows. Pencil is always awesome for sketching a hair map before painting, when I first started painting I penciled first and painted on top of that. It was my cheat, I was so nervous to paint hair.

I always use Prisma to map out the hair and then paint over it. I need a map. And not just for painting, haha, I need a map for everything in my life

I had FB memories pop up yesterday from 2011 when I first started painting hair. Yikes! Talk about scary :cold_sweat: I’m still no expert at it but at least now I can kind of get it to look more hair-ish. And I was so proud of myself for painting hair back then :joy: My poor customers.

Your hair painting is lovely, I have never seen a baby you have made that has not been beautiful. I agree with a map for everything, I am with you there.

So very kind of you, Gina, thank you ~ I’m going to make a new thread with some of my pics from the early days so as not to hog this one. It won’t be pretty :joy:
