Pencil drawn hair

The reality is that many people do not want honesty. They get upset and offended. It is when we are willing to take constructive instruction that we can learn and become better. Unfortunately, many just want the pat on the back. I have observed that to be true for the 17 years I have been doing this now. And I am still learning and trying to improve.

My first painted/Prisma hair was just HORRIBLE! Lol just a bunch of random lines.

I have actually seen quite a few people accept constructive criticism, as it helps them to be better. Many people admit where they aren’t the best as well. Usually the places we see that aren’t as well.

I think it depends on the “tone” on which the “help” is given. Example, instead of using words like Ugly, Horrible, Hate ect, we need to be mindful that it will HURT people. So we can bite our tongues and say things like “practice makes progress” and “I need a lot of practice in such and such areas”.

Proverbs 18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat of it’s fruit.

Of course

I totally agree. Constructive criticism isn’t unkind. Suggestions for improvement can be done without demolishing the efforts that have been made.

Agreed. However we also had the opposite where people kindly held their tongues and then the artist was offended because no one commented and said anything nice.

I agree. I also agree with LisaLynn.

I love criticism, if it’s done in a helpful way. I once posted a pic of when I tried to do eyebrows. Looking back, they looked horrid. People here pointed me in the right direction and I’ve improved a lot. It would be nice if we could add labels to pictures. ‘criticism wanted’ or ‘no criticism wanted’

I’m not disputing constructive criticism. We all need to have guidance and be taught Kindly. Choosing our words and tone carefully.

Tone is so difficult these days :disappointed: hard when your not in person. I try so hard to be positive but I think sometimes it is just in my head

Things do not always come across well in type written form.

Sometimes, esp in situations where artists are asking advice on pricing, I will ask if they are looking for constructive criticism.

Sometimes what could be improved stands out, but I don’t want to point it out unless that is the kind of comment they are looking for.

Other times it’s more obvious that they just want other people to share in their happiness of having completed something.

I want to be supportive when I can and helpful if they want a critical eye. When that isn’t clear I’ll ask.

So this is my conclusion on pencil hair. There are 2 types it seems. One is really nice hair that someone took the time work out detailing and give it flow and dimension. The other is just limited straight hair marks that is drawn to cover the head for the look of hair but does not look very realistic. It is just like painted hair really. Some do it very well, others are fairly well and then there are some that looks very messy. I hope my painted hair falls somewhere between fairly well and really well. I am not at the superb level for sure but I am trying very hard to get there.

I would really love a pencil hair tutorial from Cierra. I also find the pencils prone to go orange tinted unless it is the black ones. Even using air dry sealers I have experience brown turning orange when sealed. I dunno what the secret to that is…

Do you bake after using prisma? I’ve heard that several colors turn orange after baking.
