Where’s a sample of her work? And sorry…it’s more than paint by numbers. It takes an artistic eye to know where to shade and highlight, match skin tones, master hairlines and rooting, and every other fine detail that makes them each so unique and special.
I’m not at all opposed to her offering lessons. Lots of artists do that…but her approach is wrong. She shouldn’t say it’s a paint by number thing that requires no talent. Take pride in your work, woman. Offer the classes. But acknowledge that it takes a creative person to succeed at this.
She’s a prototype artist and bonafide. She does great work but I’m not a fan of the pricing and the way she markets the class. She recommends that people who want to paint a reborn for their child or grandchildren take her course. Hello? For that amount they could have a few reborns made by well known artists or up and coming reborners.
You’re right and I’m cautious when someone says anyone can get rich if they do a and b. She makes 2 or more every ten days and sells them for 700 and up. Most new artists don’t sell anything for awhile.
I like that she recommends not buying a starter kit and selling limited edition dolls but it’s not that simple. I’m very good at social media and website building. It takes a year to build a following and someone who’s new to this will take awhile to learn the skills and knowledge needed.
There’s just something about her that I don’t quite trust. I signed up for her “marketing” gig…she said she’d do a prize drawing during the event. I watched the whole thing and didn’t see her do or announce the winner. I asked several t8mes on the chat, who was the winner, but she didn’t answer. I then emailed her twice…no answer. Finally posted on her fb page and she answered that she had messaged the winner privately.
Just last week I bid on one of her eBay auctions. I lost…but this week she had the doll up on her Etsy. I messaged her and asked if it was still available. She said yes. I mentioned that I thought he sold on eBay? Apparently th3 winning bidder didn’t pay? Anyway, it sucks cause I was only $5 under the winning bid. I thought if someone didn’t pay that the next person would be offered to buy it.
It’s intetesting, cause she apparently makes a lot of money with this, but I’ve seen her comment something like “if money was no option, this baby would be a keeper”. If I was making thousands a month, I’d keep a baby if I lik3d it!
I brought her course like about 2 years ago. I made 1 reborn using her course. It is divided into modules. I had 1 month free to follow her on Facebook, the page to ask questions n get help with the course. After the free month, it’s 20.00. Which I never paid for. The course is very helpful for beginners. She tells you the colors of paint for each module. I don’t consider this course a paint by number. Since I paid for the course she had added more modules over the year, which I have access too.
This makes me feel icky. She makes it sound as if anyone can do it and it’s super easy.
I have no art background and my dolls really aren’t worth hundreds, even after doing a lot of research and working on them a lot.
Reborning is hard.
This kind of stuff is ruining the reborn art. Everyone and their uncle thinks it’s easy and that devalues the work of those of us who work very hard at realistic skin tones and hair and such. I’ve been reborning since 2004. I’ve watched this art becoming more and more mass produced crap dolls. So much so that I have discussed with my husband that I want to get out at the beginning of the new year. Its degraded to a craft that apparently requires no talent or work. I would rather make my own products my own way and leave this behind
I agree with you all. I saw this on FB and thought what, wait a minute. 5 easy steps. I must be doing something wrong, because it takes me weeks to make just 1, geesh!
