As a new mom, what is something that you wouldn’t want to be without? An item that made your life easier. If you have not had kids, has anyone told you about an invaluable newborn baby item? This is my PIF for winning Helens PIF. I will come up with 2 more! This PIF will be one week long, ending next Tuesday:smiley:

My two favorite things were my baby monitor and the musical cow we had. I put on the baby monitor and pull the string that made the cow play, and would hear sweet baby cooing and soft pretty music and know that my little one was peaceful and sweet. The cow was one of those that you pull the string and the whole body gets long and slowly goes back to size as the music runs down. I suppose that now you can get baby monitors that show video and everything but in those days it was just sound. I always could tell my little one was safe and that let me relax.
OMG, I couldn’t have lived through being a new mom any of the 3 times I was so blessed without pacifiers! For my babies, not for me! LOL Although there were times I could have probably used one too!
Infant seat! Pre-folded diapers to use for burp cloths!
Ladies, are there any specific brands you like? I am clueless. Specifics would be great… I need to make a list.

LOL! My infant seat was hard plastic with a wire support on the back to elevate the head - I am sure they were recalled in the 70s. The ones I have for use as “props” are cloth seats and they have a battery compartment that will let the seat vibrate to soothe the little one! My kids were born in '69 and '73!!! Gerber makes the prefolded diapers.
It has been a long time since my kids were babies, and the one item that I could think of that was the baby swing with my youngest son as he was a hold me baby. The only time he was happy about not being held was when he was in his swing. My oldest loved his swing too, but he was happy and content almost all the time (easy baby). Besides the baby Swing I would have to say a diaper organizer it was so helpful to have everything I needed so organized and in one place along with the diaper bag.
Nursing bras & pads! We used Costco diapers and wipes. Love their wipes!! I still have them in my car for messy kids! Lol (and adults!)
My youngest was very colicky so I would not have survived without my Baby K’tan. I also second the gerber prefolded cloth diapers as burp clothes. I had a few “cute” burp clothes for going out but the gerber cloth diapers were much more effective for everyday use.
My absolute favorite item was the baby mirror in the crib, many years ago it was made by Playschool.
To see your little one looking into the mirror and the joy not just they have but you will have watching your little one is one you never forget!! So Special to me.

The Maya Wrap ring sling was my all time fav baby accessory.
It allowed my to carry my babies and still have full use of my hands. I could nurse them and walk. If the baby was sick or just fussy I didn’t have to put them down and let them fuss so I could go potty or eat LOL
I used them till each of my kiddos were 3 when we would go on long hikes… I would just flip them to the back when they fell asleep and they would snooz away… It also helps avoid strangers touching the baby with there cooties when you take them out in public… I LOVED this thing!!!
Wow!! Thanks ladies! This is great!

We bought this for our granddaughter and she loved it…good from birth right up to 18 months …very soothing and a must have…!!..
My baby days were 30 years ago but I couldn’t do without the baby swing. They both loved it and it kept them calm and helped them to fall asleep. The other thing I could not do without, even though by today’s standards they are considered barbaric, was the playpen. We were young and redoing an old house and it was the safest place to put the baby while you painted and remodeled. I could also take a nap while they played in the playpen next to me. I don’t know why everyone thinks they are so horrible. It’s better than the baby getting into the paint or something else dangerous.
I have to agree with 2 ladies above…the baby swing…Absolutely the best baby sitter when you have other things to do like clean house, do washing or whatever. (I know I can’t play but still like to join in…heehee)…I even use to take it outside and sit it in the shade when I wanted to lay out and get a tan…(Not on super hot days of course…) Night lights are a must unless you leave other lights on in the house, also loved the sun shades that you can get to go on the car window to keep the sun off your baby and those feeding pillows (v shaped pillow) work great to prop them up too …and last but not least…if you ever intend to go anywhere to spend the day…the portable baby cots are invaluable!!!
One of our favorites when our child was a baby - he’s now 41 years old! - was a ceiling hung jumper. I do not know the brand, but it was a 6 inch belt that wrapped around him and fastened snugly with straps and a large spring that hung from either a large clamp or a large bolt mounted in the doorway. He would play in that for hours very happily. When I cleaned the house, I could move him from doorway to doorway so he could see what was going on. I don’t know if such things are even made anymore, but it sure was fun for us.
A Johnny jump up???
I adopted through Foster Care and was a working mom, so no breastfeeding for my little girl. I loved these formula dispensers. I packed the diaper bag with water in the bottles and this little dispenser. No one had to guess how much formula to feed her, since I had everything premeasured. This worked great for church and for her “visits” with her bio-mom. It’s also great on trips or just trips to the mall or park.
I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO BE a
️FOSTER MOMMY!
That does look like a more recent version. The jumper needs to be something that the baby cannot turn himself upside down in or fall out of. Our boy was pretty bouncy and really got himself going in his.
