Hi ladies! I’m working on my first baby and I have searched and researched anything I thought would enlighten me on this passionate art. There are so many wonderful resources out there However, I couldn’t find one place that had a list painting tools so, I thought we could start one here
My first is the tool from Kim’s video -
eyeshadow sponge on a long stick
Great for creases
I just recently got some Maxine mop brushes. I like them better than any other mop brushes I have.
20/0 brushes are a must for painting eyebrows and other fine details.
Viva paper towels are the best!
My wash brush is also a makeup brush I wouldn’t suggest makeup mop brush unless it’s high quality. I learned that when bristles kept falling onto Sam and I would have to quickly get them off before they dried into the paint. Thank God it was only my very first flesh layer and I was able to pounce out the lines the bristles would leave behind. Made for a very time consuming layer. Lol. Went to Michael’s and bought the 1" Artist Loft goat hair mop and love it
I agree! I use makeup brushes, and I LOVE a few certain crayola brand brushes. The only expensive brush I use is a long tiny brush for hair painting. I have purchased really expensive brushes and haven’t been impressed. I maybe just haven’t found the right ones yet.
Now, I am very picky about my wedges!!
Misty, where do you buy your wedges? It seems every time I find some I like, they change.
Thanks for the Elf tip! I’ll be on the lookout for that brand. I also found this foundation sponge below. I’m going to see if it’s useful. I also included a picture of my mop, few other brushes (some makeup), and a teeny bit of my practice belly and back plate
I get mine at Micheals and hobby lobby. The elf ones are nice but the ones i have tend to shed after a few uses. Im sure i have way too many brushes and tools, but you never know when a certain brush is perfect for the job lol. Im just as bad with needing every sculpting tool too
I know! I keep ending up ordering those really squishy wedges that are more porous! (I try to get supplies on Amazon) I hate that type. I prefer the dense kind. So far, our dollar tree sells them and they have never changed. I wish they were a little bigger though. They are the dense kind so I pick 5 packs up whenever I’m in there. Walmart sells a bag of them too, but they’re always out…
Your welcome. I also bad about buying sponges too lol. Ive got 3 shoeboxes full of them, sorted with new, used and plucked…
What kit is that and where did you get it?
@snuggle2me those don’t look like the ones I’ve gotten from Sally’s in the past. I will have to check again. @allhisgrace, I think I have some unopened packs from dollar tree. I will have to try them. I have a big drawer full of them and forget where they came from. I should start labeling the packs.
Its Jordyn. I get her from Macphersons
Wait sorry i thought it was a pic of my kit jordyn im working on. If you mean the baby dragon, its a wip sculpt thats taking me forever to get finished. She will be poured in silicone when in done sculpting her
I know! I was hunting for some sponges since cvs changed theirs to a new type and so did sallys too! They still carry the other ones but i liked how the end is naturally curved with these.
Have any of y’all bought wedges that seem to have soap infused in them? I bought my first pack at the Dollar Tree and when I wet them they have suds! Weird I know! It’s a 32 pk with Cosmetic latex-free written on the front…
All I can say is WOW!
I’d upload a picture but, my phone is being temperamental. Lol. I’ll try to upload pictures later
These are some pretty nifty things to have! I use the following to get paint pools out of creases and nooks and they are what I use to do the nail beds on my dolls.
And these
Also those sponges on a stick with holes tweezed into them are really good for blending fingertips and toes (blushing) if you get the skinny ones.
Hopefully one of the cheap brush sets you have bought have one that is a piece of metal that comes to a ball point? Those are great for removing boo boos on nail tips.
Bistro Chalk Markers for marking your hair line are pretty much a must have in my book.
Prisma Pencils! Dark Brown. Black, white and a few others are must haves for doing inside the nose (believe it or not) and you can even do veins, broken capillaries, and fine baby hairs around the face, and of course eyebrows with them.
Those are my secret weapons! haha
