I received my Lou Lou by Joanna Kazmierczak kit and I am in shock and disappointment.
Is it normal for her head to look so bumpy, like the sculpt was not smoothed or it’s done intentionally? I looked at two painted Lou Lous on Reborns and somehow I don’t see all that unevenness of the skull. I would assume it was got squished in the box, but I ordered 2 (wanted to have one as my keeper) and they are absolutely identical. Is paint will hide all that?
Am I got spoiled by Realborns and my reaction to the famous sculptors just weird?
I recently decided that I can try to buy some ‘designer’ sculpts and have so much disappointment in all of them: Teagan by LLE is so bonny-ugly, Harriet AK Kitagawa is cute but his face so lopsided. I understand that intention was that baby is laying down on that cheek and relax like only baby can relax, but I guess I didn’t expect that head would sit so tilted on the body.
Am I just too picky or don’t understand the art of sculpting? But I expect perfection when it comes to the famous sculptors and expensive LE kits over $100.
I want to cry right now…
I don’t have Lou Lou so I can’t speak to that kit, but I’m with you on the expensive kits. I’m currently working on Noa Legler and the limbs are FULL of imperfections. Slices in the fingers and toes that collect paint, dips and dimples in the arms and legs that don’t belong there, and a groove running up one shin. BB kits are definitely better quality than some of the expensive ones!
I think the lumpiness is just the sculptors style. I have been collecting some higher end kits and I find certain traits are unique to certain kits. Hazel Kitagawa has the same tilted head which looks odd to me. I am hoping when she is assembled she will look more normal. Levi Brown does not have a rounded head and is very reminiscent of Lou Lou as far as not being perfectly smooth. I think that is a trait of both sculptors. Cassie Brace kits I have noticed are very nice and smooth…a lot of them have pointy elf ears. So yes, it was surprising when I started getting artist sculpts and saw how very different they are from BB Realborns. I’m sorry you were disappointed. Craziest of all are those oddly bent appendages.
She looks normal to me. Lol all those bumps and lumps give her dimension when painting. Loulou turned out amazing and you will love her! I loved mine!! And she sold in 24 hours!
So paint her and see what you think!
I saw yours and Donna’s and they are amazing. I studded both of them and their heads looks smooth when painted. This is why I wanted to ask if that is how they are sculpted.
Having one - I would think something wrong with the head that I received, having two identical - it just something wrong with me
I have a Jayden Scholl kit from over ten years ago and I was just noticing that its head looks like its split right at the top. I believe its supposed to be a fontanelle but in its day it was a unicorn of a kit. I’ve seen the Jayden with painted hair and rooted and both look amazing. I believe that when your doll is painted it will look gorgeous!
(not my picture)
This is why I typically like sculptors kits more because most of them add in the actual bone structure and that is why they look more realistic. Due to the fact that the bones look more prominent work in your favor because when you add shading and highlights to those areas it makes your babies more alive. Even though realborns are 3D images of a real baby all that bone structure is, sometimes, non-existent and it makes it more difficult…at least to me.
That said, I dont really like older kits other than the fact that they are a challenge, and some sculptors are far better than others. Some of the BB kits…especially the open eye realborns…dont look right either…Im rooting 7 month June awake right now and her head is just a big ball and a stark contrast to Luise by Karola Wegerich who Im also rooting.
I assume realborns don’t have a soft spot because the babies have hair. The hair will show up on the scan and when they edit the sculpt they’ll probably remove all the extra bits and make it smooth.
I also enjoy the sculpted kits that have those details.
I’m still waiting on my Loulou kits. Teagan is an early LLE kit so that may be way it isn’t as refined as her latest kits. Phoenix Brace has a cocked head. It makes posing limited, and it’s one of the reasons why I don’t reborn Sugar. I really don’t even like the way Darren’s head is tilted. Thankfully, there are so many other kits to reborn so I don’t have to repeatedly reborn one that I don’t really like.
I think Lou Lou is adorable. Most versions I’ve been seeing are really cute, so you might be surprised.
That said, I completely understand what you are saying. With the exception of Bonnie Brown kits, which seem to be perfect every time, I have never been happy with the quality of premium kits. It’s really hit or miss. Sometimes okay, other times there are holes in fingers, splits in vinyl, dots everywhere ect. It irritates me to no end.The fact that BB and Bonnie Brown send out only flawless kits prove that it’s possible. Why can’t everyone else do this?
The other thing is that the realborns have ruined a lot of kits for me. Feet on many sculpted kits look out of proportion and not detailed compared to them. The ears on many sculpted kits drive me crazy these days. So maybe a bit of this is happening for you too? If so, good news. You will not only be assured of high quality when buying BB kits, you will save $$$$$.
Oh my goodness! That is horribly ugly. If only the buyers of those kits were so picky with them as the artitsts buyers are. I am talking about the stories we get here from buyers. WOW! I would cry. I would be so upset, and I would be looking for answers. No, you are not being too picky.
LouLou by Johanna K, just released, so people who preordered are just now getting the kits.
I personally like it… I think it adds to it. Kinda like Bonnie Brown’s kits with the bone definition. I am working on Twin A now and it is very “bony”. Just adds depth and natural shadows.
What I dislike is when the soft spot is a triangle…
I have just looked at your photos. I think it is normal. I remember alot of dips around the temple area. But, I like that. I do agree I am spoiled to Bountiful baby kits. I love that I do not have to pay 99.00 plus and worry about a defective kit. And I love not having to neutralize them . I think your Kit. will paint up beautifully. I love your red headed baby, the hair is so stunning. I need to take time and learn to root.
Some of the sculpted kits available show more bone structure and that can be a good thing. The flaws that we sometimes see on sculpted kits that are more expensive are frustrating though. Creases and wrinkles that look like knife slashes and twisted fingers and toes are especially irritating. Some artists seem to not care about the details on anything but the face. And some artists are so into sending out only the very best that they will have an entire edition repoured to get it. You will learn who deserves to have you trust them with your money!
Meanwhile, BB has great quality control and even their 2nds are not as shameful as some expensive first quality artist sculpts that are offered elsewhere.
