So precious!!!
He is adorable. Your job and details is over the top!
I finished all my vinyl babies for the show (still need to photograph last 4) and suddenly got a desire to paint silicone.
So, Rhodri got his armature ‘surgery’ today.
I know not everyone is a fan of the “red above lips” style, I was trying to give more definiton to her lips since it looked like she was wearing lipstick. My phone makes everything more yellow toned than it actually is
they’re better looking in person
You’re painting her beautifully! Love your style!
I’m not sure why I did not know you painted silicone @YelenaRey. Here you are doing this and adding armatures! I need these skills. Did you take a class? Can’t wait to see what you do with him.
Nothing wrong with a little color above the lips. Babies do have that sometimes @sim97. She looks cute. ![]()
She looks great. I do like red above the lips.
Ohh, Veronica, you were out for too long ![]()
I did take a class with Susan Gibbs last September.
I panted cuddle Darren after that (his hands and feet didn’t take paint for me) and I just matted my class baby couple of days ago, so she need to be photographed.

And last year at DOTWE I took fantasy class with Laurie Duncan - painting fantasy is less stressful and easier for me.
Right! Where have I been? ![]()
Not only do you paint silicone, you are good at it! Everything looks great. What did Susan say about the areas that didn’t take paint? No tricks for that? If no, that’s scary that you can buy a full kit and have this happen since it’s so expensive.
How was this doll to root? I understand that angle is more important. Is it easier otherwise because the head is soft?
Gorgeous ![]()
She’s really beautiful! Those finger nails
I think I have a baby doll finger nail obsession ![]()
Aw I love Gemma! She is the second reborn I painted and the first that looked normal lol. She does have a sweet face
Mine isn’t off to a great start for some reason
I’m finding her kinda challenging since she doesn’t seem as detailed as others. Does this ever happen to anyone else??
Gemma has a sweet face. She was one of the first few dolls I painted and I ended up gifting to a girl who lost her father.
I actually like these kinds of sculpts. For one, it’s a break from the creases.
It’s also a fun challenge to push for realism.
P.S. I have a nail obsession too. Love looking at them and enjoy painting them for some reason.
No tricks. Silicone is unpredictable and BB silicone is notoriously bad. Many in the class said that when they painted BB silicone there were often problems like that, so they advised not to buy it from BB.
But some on this forum have good results. So maybe some are better quality than others.
Rooting silicone is a big hassle to me. Not easy at all. But again - it’s me. I see Caitlyn rooting easily sitting in the hotel bed without any problems at every show
.
Overall, for me painting silicone is a big nerve brake, I don’t like materials, I don’t like paints. I sealed Ethana in September 2025 before my surgery (didn’t want to breath matte powders when I needed my lungs for long anesthesia), and built the nerves to come back for matting her only in June 2026. Before doing matting I rewatched class video and took calming supplements
. After doing matting, my hands were shaking for a while - this is how nervous I was not to screw up all my previous work. But again, it’s just me. Everyone who has good practice painting silicone is saying that it is much easier than vinyl. I wish to say that one day ![]()
Me too! Nails and eyebrows!
I wish I can paint eyebrows like Cherie!
What a lovely baby
And here I am sitting next to a pile of BB kits. I did learn by doing some reading that painting silicone as fresh out of the mold is the way to go for paint adhesion. These kits have been here for months. ![]()
I want to ask more questions but do not want to hijack this thread so I will message you.
