Kit from China! Who does it look like?

BB has had kits out of stock for a very long time (certain kits). That’s not the point though. To try and figure out their reasoning is moot. I can’t put my myself in their shoes, because I wouldn’t do something like that. All I know is, they are copying more and more kits from varying artists. I don’t think they are going to stop anytime soon. So far, it doesn’t seem like they are facing any consequences. So, I don’t predict it will stop anytime soon. All we can do as artists, is do our best to not purchase fraudulent kits and report.

Coco Malu is an open edition and I think as long as she sells, they will continue to have the kits made and stocked. I think many of the doll companies have them.

It is my understanding that when BB has a kit out of stock for a while it is because the mold that they use to pour needs to be reworked and that takes time. Over time the molds are not as crisp in their details.

The point of the post and most of the comments in this post have nothing to do with ‘Bountiful Baby kits’. That was just a simple observation on my part. However, ‘the point’, rather, is that sculpts are being stolen at an alarming rate.

Maybe you are thinking of Coco by Natalie Blick. Coco Malu is open ended.

Some of Bountiful Babie’s kits have been made by the China companies and have been sold illegally. I don’t remember which ones, but it was posted in another thread within the past couple of months. @bbsupport indicated it was too much trouble to attempt to stop the thieves.

Does anybody know what kit is this a copy off? chinese

How are they educating anybody in a closed group? Anyway, many people who buy these dolls just look at eBay or ETSY, they do not understand what is going behind the scenes, and most do not really care; they just want a doll, and do not want to pay too much. Few years ago I have done several of these kits blissfully unaware that they are unauthorized. I only found out when I started to come here. Not all doll makers hang around doll forums.

Are all the Chinese kits copies of kits? I have to say that those I looked at I do not recognize, not that I spent much time looking at them. Even the one that people claim to be Luca copy is really only similar. The mouth is different, the size & shape of the head is bit different and the limbs are also different - although I believe they are copy of another kit. I think that makes it just about impossible for anybody to try to claim copyright. Also, I think there is a difference if somebody sells unauthorized kit and calls it DK, and when then somebody else tries to resell it claiming it is Coco Malu. But I also bought some kits that I am sure were genuine but they came without the certificate of authenticity; one was Kylin by LTR.

It is a closed group but anyone who requests can join. I do not know why they chose to set it up that way.If you are a member you could submit that doll kit that you posted and with all the doll sculptors who are members on there, someone would be able to identify it for you.

Hi Pia. I have a question for you, as I see you have reborned a Tate sculpt by A. Arcello. I received a COA with the sculpt but it is not very professional looking and I’m wondering if you remember what the one you got with your sculpt was like.? This one is small and in black and white with the bare minimum of color and just on normal but slightly glossy paper. Tacky looking!
Anyways I’m keeping the doll so no real issue there, just wondering. :no_mouth:
Cheers! Lynn W

It is very plain. Here is a picture of “Harper’s”

I am not interested in joining such a groups, and I do not like FB. If they tried to inform public they would not be closed group.
I am just interested to know if all of the Chinese kits are definite copies. I often look at some kit made by well known sculptor, and think it looks a lot like a kit by another sculptor, made few years ago. The same with limbs.

Why do you seem to be upset with me? I am not the owner of the FB page. I cannot defend it nor can I explain why it is set up the way it is. I was just mentioning that it existed.

Well - the sculptors are up in arms about the copies and someone posted a link to limbs available at MacPherson’s and it appears that they are from the NPK a factory in China and are probably a copy of someone’s kits. They are called DKI. The baby I did from China was a DK-12 that someone seems to think is Luca but i don’t think it really is !

I have DK-12 also. I don’t think it even looks like Luca.

OMG I just read this post. I just won an action on ebay and now wondering if she is a fake :frowning:
This is the auction link http://www.ebay.com/itm/271820887476?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

The listing does say it’s Arianna Awake Kit By Reva Schick. What do you guys think
When I bid on it I never thought it could be a fake! Please tell me it’s not

It is from China and is definitely a copy.

Yep - copy of the Arianna kit! I don’t know if you can cancel your PayPal payment and stop them from shipping it?

I agree. It’s a fake. All the really inexpensive kits that we know that are on eBay say China or from China somewhere on the auction site. Sometimes it’s way at the bottom so you don’t notice it unless you know to look. These are the copied kits.
