Crash glass and glass beads are not the same. They both are sandblasting media but have not the same shape or feeling.
Cluster polyfill it’s not the same as the Angel Silk filling (from BB).
And yes I think is important to disclose witch one you use. Maybe not extend it to the brand, tho.
This is beads, according to crafting specialists
What I don’t like in this situation that a good artist name who sells affordable dolls and clearly disclosed that purchased doll is not perfect, was called as artist with ‘cheap short cuts’. And as far as I remember she even accepts the returns in first 3 days - how many of us do that?
In addition, I think she might be a member of this forum and I think all that ‘cheap short cuts’ name calling shouldn’t continue without a solid prove for anyone.
I remember that someone mistaken glass beads with sugar and tried to dissolve them in water. Thankfully that person wasn’t dumb enough to taste it.
And speaking about disclosures, I also remember that I pointed out that you put your Elijah on wrong 3/4 limbs body, however he was sold with all original pictures. Did you disclosed that?
You obviously didn’t read what I wrote. We will have to agree to disagree.
Yes.
As far as the artist goes, I’m not naming them or calling them out. This isn’t that important. I was just being my own inexperienced self and originally thought the crushed glass was sand. More over than all of that, I didn’t realize crushed glass was a thing that lots of people do. My complaint at that point kind of just petered out really. I’ll say it again for the kids in the back, it’s my fault too, I didn’t bother to ask. If I don’t ask an artist can’t tell. I was just annoyed by finding an unknown to me material in the doll.
I still think full disclosure of materials needs to happen but I’m not going to try to be some authority on it and tell anyone they need to do anything. I’ll just ask next time. It isn’t that hard.
Now I’m picturing you in granny panties with a pile of Hershey’s wrappers beside you and Cheeto orange on your fingers watching TV and painting. Or is it a thong? I’m gonna stick with granny panties vision either way.
Strictly granny panties! Or ma big lady briefs! Definite wrappers and cheetle all around me
I think its petty and nit picking to go after artist for saying beads, most doll shops call it glass beads, its what we refer to it as. Shes not cheap just because she uses finer glass. Also not everyone can by the angel silk from BB because the shipping and fees are too high in other parts of the country…Im irritated by people being so snobby over what polyfil and glass beads they use as if there is a certain standard.
I use 600 to 800 Microns from a sandblasting company…its less dusty than what I used to buy from Puppentramaland…it is called “glass pearls”. I use the polyfil from Puppentraumland…I also have started using packets of silicone “baby fat” in babies tushies.
I also eat cereal while reborning
I’m not going after an artist, ergo no name ever put out there. It is petty and I’m pretty sure I said that already. Being a snob about what you buy isn’t malicious it is preference.
One last time…I thought it was sand but it’s actually a crushed glass material apparently a lot of artists use. My bad. Should I change the title of the thread? Would that help at all?
I think that would be kinder because Im sure the artist knows you are talking about her.
I changed it to “Is this sand?” So that the next uneducated jerk like me can find out the easy way about crushed glass and it’s popular/preferred use.
It’s all getting overboard. Dave already has enough filters and things to check off we don’t need to start defining it farther. Glass beads and polyfil, that’s it let’s not make this more difficult than it has to be. It’s all blasting material no mater what grit or shape. If a customer is so picky that they need to know what grit was used then it’s on them to ask and find out. Just listing it’s glass should be good enough.
Kansas next year! Cheetos, Chocolate, jammies, and instead of TV @ellakabella serenading us.
Just so you know…it all sandblasting material…even the round balls. I used to use the round balls for weighting but reborning is very, very expensive…its hard to make money because of all the money going out. Its not a “job” its a hobby. Some people are fast and can make money, people like me end up putting a lot of the money back into reborning. Its cheaper to use the same glass in the limbs that I use for weighting, its not cutting corners, its just being smart.
Also, I could not use those larger glass balls to put in the limbs, that would not feel nice.
That’s exactly how I feel. You were just more eloquent in explaining it.
The fact is there are very few materials made specifically for reborning. That’s part of the beauty of this art. It’s interpretation, experimentation, thinking outside the box & no rules. That’s why I like it. I’m a go your own way kind of person. I’m not saying to not disclose your materials - but I feel no obligation to be so descriptive for something that is not a food, drink or medicine.
Glass is glass. Memory foam is not polyfil. Glass is not silicone. You aren’t comparing the same items. All the glass is blasting media, the shape or the grit doesn’t change that. You will have to pass on all dolls with glass weighting if you are against blasting material and just stick to silicone or polypellets. Being round doesn’t make in not blasting media.
Full disclosure: I eat Cheetos too but only the crunchy kind. None of that cheesy poofs crap
Me too…Im glad its hard for me to get Cheetos because thats a serious addiction there . I wouldnt eat them while reborning though…too much “cheese” on the fingers
Yes, one has to be careful when binging and painting!
Same! Crunchy girl all the way! Poofs are for babies
I keep a tub of baby wipes to cleanse the cheetle off
