Is this sand?

I bought a budget baby for $275. The hair has some bald spots and the paint has mistakes here and there. Overall, she’s a cute little bean and I love her! She curls up REALLY nice when you hold her.

All of that said, I feel like even a budget baby should have materials that are standard across this Industry. I popped her head off so I can fill in her bald spots or reroot her because I’m really picky about hair. She had sand in her head. It was in a stocking that wasn’t even doubled over.

I’m redoing her body too because I want a squishy baby closer to silicone. Who knows what I’ll find in there. Probably sand. When I got her I thought she felt like sand and well, I wasn’t wrong.

I’m not going to try to return her because I don’t want the hassle. I’m just really annoyed at paying for a doll with substandard materials.

I’m done complaining now.

Gahhh! I feel your pain. I bought a baby that was not a boo boo, but she was. I ended up redoing her…xo

Are you sure it’s sand sand? I use two different types of beads, bigger in head and body, then the really fine one in limbs. Really packs in the weight and doesn’t crunch when squeezed. But it sort of does look like sand.

My glass also looks “sandish” I use knee high hose and quadruple layer them to keep it from getting out.

It falls through the stocking she used. Perhaps it is some for glass beads. It does crunch though.

Glass makes crunchy noises.

I was going to mention that as well. In the limbs I use harbor freight glass beads which are sand like. Head and body get the larger glass beads.
I’d never use harbor freight beads in a stocking (like in the head).

I am amazed at how many of you artists use stockings for your glass. I am sorry but that just is not acceptable in my world (even doubled over) unless you are using the really larger glass beads Mil 1 that truly won’t work their way through. Those are the only ones I will put in a hose and then I buy the trouser sock hose from the Dollar Tree that is thick like tights. I just would never use stockings/regular knee highs at all. I cannot tell you how many babies I have taken apart to repair that had glass seaping all through the stocking. Off my soap box now. Obviously this is a big pet peeve to me.

I use girl tights doubled or tripled.

I have repaired some with beads in nylons… ugh.

I make my own pouches because of the stocking leaking over time.

Here is a comparison of my beads. I have shared this photo on here before. This is mil 3 (20-30) on top and 50-70 on bottom. Bucket didnt say what mil. Or I don’t remember right now anyway.

Yes, I use Mil 3 in the limbs and put them in an all vinyl glove for the head. I have read some say they think they crunch but I have not felt that so about mine. I pack them in super tight with poly fill. I use the Mil 1 in the trouser sock hose for the body cavity. I have used the Mil 3 in the body cavity inside an all vinyl glove back before I found the Mil 1.

If this is glass beads or blasting medium then I need to firgure out how to ask for larger glass beads and not accept blasting material.

These are the beads I use.

There are glass beads in the body. If I stretch the stocking enough you can see that they are actual beads. Maybe I’m just being a jerk? :woman_shrugging:

Looks like crushed glass, not sand.

@anjsmiles I use the stoking sold by BB, so I guess that’s ok ? I don’t see why it wouldn’t be acceptable. I never had any leakage. I would’nt use regular stocking except with larger glass beads.

I agree.

Well, she DID put beads in the body. I’m not taking her all the way apart to know if her limbs have glass shards or beads. They crunch so I’m guessing glass shards. I need to stop whining about a cheap doll I bought. She was $275… I think I’m just being mean and expecting too much from a budget baby.

At least it’s not kitty litter :joy:

I agree tho even low budget doll should be weighted with appropriate material. There’s no need to be gready and save 10$ on glass beads even on a 275$ doll.

Glass beads are gray in color, and can be just as fine as sand

Be careful not to inhale that stuff that is crushed glass. Very dangerous.
