I have found an air dry sealer that is truly MATTE!

Everyone check out my blog post on Sealers.
And remember, you heard it from me!

Thank you, @anjsmiles. I am seriously getting frustrated with these because I think my babies look better without varnish. And like you, I like them totally matte, no shine at all.

@anjsmiles you’re the best! I’m going to get some of this. I’m still having trouble with shininess some. I have blamed it on this Georgia humidity but I have managed to lower the humidity in my studio and still get shiny sometimes.

Thank you Angie! Is is interesting that the two soft touch varnishes are the same thing! I really like the feel of the soft touch so maybe I will try the cornstarch combo. It is nice that the duraclear may be an option too. Thank you for sharing😊

Must have heard about this somewhere because it’s sitting here in my giant basket of products. :joy:

Can I prime with this?

I have that same little bottle but mine is soft touch varnish, lol!

You should not use this as a primer. If a product can be used as a primer, it will say that or will say can be used as a translucent ground.

BTW, the label on my bottles looks like yours and not the stock photo one.

Is it UV protective?

It does not say that specifically. They do say it can be used on both indoor and outdoor projects.
I use paints with UV protection so I am not so worried about that. Good quality paints do not need varnish for that reason. I apply varnish so to protect them and the vinyl from scratches and rubs.

Is this more matte than the Decoart Media Ultra Matte Varnish?

This may be a stupid question… Can I use this air dry sealer on top of Genesis paints? I have only sealed one baby with Genesis sealer and I didn’t like the feel when baked. And I didn’t like having to bake three times after applying.
Thank you for your help. You ladies are AMAZING!!!

Yes

I have not tried that. I would say try it on a test limb.

Thank you! I am getting some tomorrow!

I used a cosmetic wedge. Brushed it onto the wedge and then pounced the vinyl with the wedge.

I have this, it looked shiny. How do you apply it? Thanks, Mel

Can someone please tell me how to apply the ‘look alive’ thinning medium to my doll? I tried the ultra matte varnish that Angie is talking about on a test limb again and it’s still shiny, maybe it’s the vinyl making it do that. I got ‘look alive’ and now I’m just confused. Thank you guys…

I’ll make a test limb and try it. Thanks!

Are you sure you have the ULTRA MATTE version of this? They have a regular matte version as well but it has to be the Ultra Matte version for a nice matte finish. I have not tried it over Genesis though.

If you are looking for a matte finish you need Genesis Matte Varnish. Look Alive is dewy I do believe.
I mix Genesis Satin 40% with Genesis Matte Varnish 60% to get a nice finish with Genesis.
