Here is also another thread where Pia took a wrap around body plate and cut the side, sewed on corset hooks and attached it that way. You might could do the same on both sides of your plates if they are big enough to wrap around the sides a bit. If not, I would just make holes and lace down the sides with ribbon like shoe strings are laced.
