I have been wondering if there would be any one willing to do a Tutoring partner swap where a more experienced artist swapped a baby with a beginning artist or someone who is less experienced in order to help tutor them…This could be someone who has 1 year or 10+ dolls and up helping another artist who is new or someone who has 5+ years and up swapping with a 1 year or less etc (just examples)…I know that many beginning artist would probably participate but what about you ladies who have been painting for a while? There may be nothing to gain physically but the gain in knowing that you help another artist should be quite rewarding…I have never heard of anyone doing this before…it is sort of an idea that has been fermenting in my mind for awhile…not even sure that there would be enough interest to do it but just thought I would ask…It would not be something that we would start till after Rose cause there are lots of things already going on till then but just putting it out there to see if there is any real interest…
The jest of the swap would be that the beginning artist would have the experienced artist doll so they can look at it up close and personal, ask questions, decided if there are things they like or dislike about it and how to achieve it or change some aspects …eg. say the doll was darker or lighter toned than the person prefers - the experienced artist can tell them what to do to make the changes because they are the ones who painted it to start with…or if they like the mottling - instruct them in how to achieve it, etc…the experienced artist would have to less experienced persons doll and could use it for reference in helping that artist…meaning that if there was not enough detail, you would use their doll as a tutorial for them personally…using pictures as you go to show how they can take their doll to the next level by adding to or toning down what they have done and using the actual doll to show them the difference a little more or less paint can make…
We would have to have experienced artist commit to the swap to know if it would work…to be experienced, you would need to have done enough dolls to feel that you are able to help someone else with most questions they would have…not meaning that you have to know everything - none of us do but you have to feel confident that you know your products, etc…So I guess this is just a ‘feeler’ topic to see if there is any interest…no time is set for it so it is very open on that regard so that ladies do not feel pressured and it could be set at a time when there is less going on…
This may die a slow death (or a quick one) but just thought I would ask
I would like to participate as a beginner too. I actually posted a few weeks ago looking to hire (pay money) a local/local-ish personal tutor. I got ZERO responses lol.
Sounds like a great idea! If necessary, in order to get more participation, perhaps you could do a beginner, intermediate and experienced level. So, for instance like @izzy suggested, @Nikkiroc could be a teacher for a beginner, but Nikki could also be a student of a more experienced artist. That would keep the teaching flowing down like a waterfall.
Sounds good to me but then I would have to be a student(less than a year). Just someone to look at my dolls and make suggestions would be great to me because I’m scared for others to see my work and the people I know thinks it’s crazy. They wouldn’t know what they were looking for anyway. I’ve even thought about asking if I coul send my baby to someone that knew what they were looking at with return postage just to coach me.
I would love this too as a student and maybe a teacher, I have learned so much from everyone and I am now starting to go in my own direction in creating these babies. I know I would have loved doing something like this when I first started.
I would be interested in mentoring a new beginner…someone just starting out. I’m not committing, but am letting you know I am interested, and thinking about it.
I think this may work but the issue I see is I would be concerned about someone getting ripped off in some way like a super nice kit being sent and kept or sold or someone claiming another’s work as their own.
If this were to work I believe the two artists would need to agree to work on the same kit and it be a cheaper priced kit… Like a BB seconds or clearance kit and that photos with watermarks or safety pix be taken before being shipped off.
This is an amazing idea @westernstarr! If there aren’t any experienced artist interested maybe we could do a paint together series? Kinda like Cher did with Lets make a baby except more detailed. We could put a baby aside and only paint on certain days at certain times? Just an idea
Get a bunch of ideas on what beginning artist would like to learn and go from there? Anyways I’m interested in any kind of lesson I can get.
Another possible issue is people misjudging their own work and believing it to be better (or worse) than it really is. I think for the scamming part there would need to be rules about being an active member and having positive feedback and references on the forum. I think this could work out though with the right rules in place!
I would love to do this. But what if your not a beginner and don’t feel like you’re a teacher? I have beenreborning for about 8 years but still learn new things all the time, I look up to you and many others hear on the forum but feel I am not a beginner. How would we decide? I would really enjoy this from both sides.
I would love to be a student! I have done 11 babies so far. I really like the idea of the lower priced BB kit with both working on the same doll - I think I could learn a lot from so many of the others here! I could maybe coach a brand new beginner, but still consider myself a beginner, too. I have been doing this only since last June.
I would be interested as a learner. My question is would you be able to mach painting style (i.e., primary color painters with another who uses primary colors, flesh with flesh?) Or would it not make any difference? Would they be bald?
What if we just do limbs or belly plates or heads instead of a full baby? This would cost less, take less time and lessen the chance of getting scammed and whatnot. Just an idea…
