I use ceramcoat for the glazing and, yes, it makes a huge difference. When I take the babies out, the realism of the eyes are usually the first thing people notice. I never heard that on the ones that werenât glazed.
BB has wispy baby lashes but none specifically for preemies so you have to cut & trim them. Dolls By Sandie, Reborn Supplies Planet, Dolly Lane Reborn Supplies and Secrist Dolls all have preemie and clear thread eyelashes.
Nichole, Iâm so sorry this is giving you so much trouble. You will get the hang of it, though. I cursed quite a bit with my first set of eyes quite a but not so much the second time around.
As far as Aleeneâs goes, I think some have mentioned that the glaze turns white when wet. What product was on the eyes in the pics above?
Aleneâs:-( I knew I should of tried the cermacoat but I could not find it anywhere around here:-( so⌠I went back to the glaze. Well⌠At least I got THAT out of my systemâ:unamused:CONGRATS ON YOUR SALE AMY!!! I love your baby! Who are u going to do next? I am doing MEG! Closed eyes!
LOL! Itâs fitting you do a closed-eye next.
Thank you for the congrats! Iâm not sure which kit is next but Iâll determine that tomorrow. I do know itâll be an open-eyed baby; I love how engaging they are.
wahhhhhâŚso sorry that you have had so much troubleâŚOn the business - is it necessary to glaze the eyeâŚI think it is a matter of personal choice. I have done dolls for a movie last year and also for a child clothing photographer here in oz and the photographer was the pickiestâŚlol (male too.) I did both glazed and unglazed eyes for his and he was pretty happy both waysâŚHe did not like them over glazed cause he said another lady had done one for him and the child looked like it had a perpetual coldâŚlol so I do think it is a matter of choiceâŚAlso another thing that makes a difference is the quality of eyes you useâŚEyeco eyes are beautiful if you are looking for acrylic eyes and are very shiny on their ownâŚhere are a couple close ups of some of my dolls withacrylic eyes and no glaze on them
then there are glass eyesâŚhere is an example of glass eyes without glaze (first photo and was one I did for the photographer) and one with glaze (second photo)
both look really niceâŚyou can give the allusion of moisture without coating the eye by adding the glaze to the inside rim of the eye, into the corners and on the lids etcâŚIf you want to âmuteâ the shine or âblendâ it so that is goes into a natural stainâŚleave it wet at the edges and closest to the eye and use your finger to âtapâ it on the outer edges away from the main part you want wetâŚthis sort of disperses it so that you donât have a wet line edge to your glaze and looks naturalâŚif you still want to glaze the whole eyeâŚhope the cremacoat works for youâŚit is so frustrating but it does get betterâŚBIG HUG!!!
When I said - Eyes with No Glaze on them- I am meaning on the eye itselfâŚdefinitely glazed around itâŚlol Just wanted to clarify thatâŚ
Nichole, hereâs a before and after pic with the Ceramcoat:

I have only glazed one set of eyes so far and got great results with Aleenes. I guess I was just lucky. I think Iâll get some Ceramcoat and let you ladies save me some future hassles, lol.
AmyâŚvery interested in what eyes you use. And anyone else who wants to chime in âŚthx
Deb, I use BBâs eyes:
i use Eyeco eyes. They are amazing. i especially love the flexible ones because they fit in the sockets so well, but I donât bake with them in. They are very soft. But you should check out Eyeco for color choices. The selection is great.
What does glazed around it mean?
I finally found the right cermacoat!!! Hubby bought it to stop the crying.
now⌠Do I dare to do with ROUND 4⌠Nichole on one side of the ring, cermacoat on the other⌠I have already been knocked out by all other contenders! Iâm nervous⌠And I forgot to get eyelashes⌠Paul, honey??? Lololol
My that baby has some bad conjunctivitis! LOL. Iâm sure you will get it cleared up. I have never used the glaze over the eyes. I have done in the corners and lower lash area to give the wet look and always gotten good respose. Seriously though I am sure you will get the knack of it keep your chin up and hug that hubby for being so understanding.

You have a good hubby! Let us know how it goes. Enquiring minds want to know.
Sorry, couldnât resist.
Lolol@amy I didnât get lashes, so I have to wait. I am not sure if this little thing can withstand another eye lash rooting? I did get her eyes out, and managed to get the gunk out. These eyes were easy to clean, the first pair are not save able. I donât know why⌠I did the same crappy job both times! Lololol
I finally stopped crying. Lololol wine helpsâ:+1:
So glad you got it cleaned up and, yes, wine helps a lot!
Hi NikkiâŚI have been seriously considering that 'Free Home Cooked Meal"âŚhmmmmmm It almost sounds worth a plane ticket to the USA to meâŚlol (Just kidding) When I was saying âglazeâ around, I was meaningâŚinsert your baby eyes, or not - either way is fine, and just use the small filbert brush with the glaze and glaze in and around the rim of the eye socket, corners and the lids if you like a moist look on the lids and not bother with glazing over the whole eyeâŚIf you use nice quality eyes, you may not need the eye itself glazed to look shiny and wet. I suggest to ladies I tutor that they look at real baby photos to get an idea of what a baby eye looks like so that they do not over glazeâŚMost babies, unless they are sick do not have really âwet, runny looking eyesâ anyway so using glaze over the whole eye is not really necessary unless you just like that super wet look or if you have eyes that do not have a nice shiny clear finish to start with. Hope that helps
Just did my first âwet eyesâ and had terrible results too! I have ordered ceramcoat now, but see someone is saying she uses satin and I have ordered gloss - is this right?
