I apparently am not meant for glazing. Is there anyway to fix this mess?please help. She was just precious , until I got it on with the glaze.
Hi Nikki,
Bless you girl…you have been trying so hard with this…got a quick question first…did you glue your lashes and then glaze and if so what sort of glue did you use…It looks like the lashes have ‘floated’ loose and air has gotten between them and the vinyl, possibly mixed with the glue and which will cause the white you have going on above the lashes…the corners of the eyes look to be having problems with air under the glaze an maybe a bit too thick there…you have done a lovely job on the kit…I hate to tell you this cause I know you will probably be ready to scream but I think you are going to have to take the lashes off, pull the eyes and clean the sockets…then if you want to do the glaze while the eyes are in…insert the eyes…take a thin brush and a very thin layer of glaze and go around the complete eye socket sealing the crease between the eye and the vinyl…let it totally dry…then have a good look and see if there are any spots where there is a gap where air can come in from socket…if so do another very thin layer to seal it…then you want to put your lashes on…make sure they are dry and secured…next you drop the glaze in, use your brush to guide the glaze over the whole eye…let it settle…it will move to the corners if you have the head laying down…then with a paper towel handy…wipe your brush and just dip it carefully into the ‘puddles’ at the corners till you remove the excess…don’t get too carried away with it or you will cause bubbles and do it while it is still very wet…if you want the glaze to settle more towards the bottom of the eye tilt the head so that it puddles there…again, keep it thin…it is best when you get to the step of covering the whole eye that you do it in one hit if possible but if you have to add an extra coat make sure the previous one is fully dry…the most important things to keep from getting the white "never gonna dry’ look is to be sure the crease is sealed so no air comes up under your glaze and keep your glaze thin coats…wahhhhhhh…i wish I could help you…it is always easier to be in the same room and watch than to explain on paper… so sorry you ar having so much trouble…
oh ps…those sealing coats are just around the edges…don’t cover the whole eye at that stage…you do that after it is sealed and dry…
Oh no!!! So sorry Nikki!
I’ve had this happen, too, and it stinks…grrrrrrrr…
In my case, I removed the lashes and eyes and soaked the eyeballs in rubbing alcohol and it finally came off. I don’t use the glaze now. I like to use a tiny bit of Ceramcoat Satin varnish if I think the eyes need it; it dries clear and adds a bit of the wet look, too. You’ll need new lashes.
I’m so sorry this happened…Starr and Karen have completely answered your sad question.
I’m sorry too that this happened to you. I was just about ready to try glazing the eyes for the first time. I might wait now. People, does it really make a huge difference in the realism of the eyes if you glaze them?
I think it makes a huge difference. If you follow Starr’s directions you shouldn’t have any problem.(hopefully) Sealing around the eye to prevent bubbles/holes in the final glaze layer is very important. Be brave…do you have a test head and some less than wonderful eyes so you can practice?
I definitely will practice on my practice head first…lol.
This was my 3 try!!!thank you everyone. Her poor eyes. The first pair were ruined. I tried like hell and the glaze WILL NOT come off:-( and I don’t think her poor eyelids can withstand another rooting job:-( I might need a whole new head. I was sooo in love with her before all this:-( I want to cry. Maybe I will.
Like Michelle asked… Does this make such a difference? I have never seen a reborn with open eyes.
No, you don’t need a new head. Take out the eyelashes and the eyes. Can you peel or scrape the glaze off with your fingernail? If not, and nothing else removes it, you might need new eyes. Insert & glaze them (or not) and then use wispy baby doll lashes. If you get thread lashes there’s no line but the regular ones work well, too. Just put a thin line of clear drying glue (I use Aleene’s tacky glue) along the underside of the eyelid and push the eyelid strip in with a toothpick. They’ll be glued to the lid and the eyeball (but that won’t be visible) when you push them in. If you glue just the inner corner first and let it dry, it secures the lashes so they don’t move while you do the rest. You’ll be able to trim the outer corner easily if they’re too long. Good luck.
Can you just come over??? Lolol south padre isn’t THAT far from OZ! I’m a good cook! I’ll make you dinner!
I followed the tutorial, I saw NOTHING about sealing the eye socket. And no, that’s all glaze… I didn’t use any glue.
I have only sealed the eye edge first if there is a gap. On some heads no matter how much you work you can’t get the eye and socket to be nice and tight. I also tap the head on a table top after I glaze to try and get any air bubbles to come up right away. I’ve done many heads exactly like the tutorial. One nice layer over the eye and up to the edge…no problem. Eyes/brows/lashes…all my most hated part of reborning!!
The eyes are stuck, sealed In tight. How can I get them out please?
Did you try peeling the entire layer of gloss plus eyelashes off? I’ve done that before and it sometimes works really well and you don’t have to take out the eyes.It helped with mine to put a wet cloth over the eyes for a little while and I guess that started breaking down the medium enough that I could get it to lift away from the vinyl and the eye itself. If it doesn’t work to remove it all from the outside though, you will probably need to take the eyes out.
I did a wet compress and it loosened the glaze, but she was in bad shape and so eyes and lashes are removed. I am trying to loosen all the white gunk that’s left with a cool compress on her poor face. Then to see if her eyes are save able. This poor baby:-(
Does Alene’s paper glaze always turn white like that if it gets wet?? I am NEVER using that again for eyes. I guess we will see if I have better luck with ceramacoat! God help me, I hope I do. I can’t give up at this point. Where is the best place to get preemie lashes?
Did you give it a try?
