So, one of my customers has notified me of paint rubbing off of her baby. I used GHSP and a good varnish, never had any issues before…HALP what do I do???
I’d ask for pictures.
I did.
Does it look like the whole doll has become shiny, like they handle it alot or could have done something crazy like used lotion…?
Or is it in a random part like it could have been against a plastic container or something?
I don’t know how to fix it, but maybe the pix could help indicate why/how it happened.
These are her photos…they look terrible. I’ve sold so many babies and never had an issue. I use Americana soft touch with shine free talc added…
Even my personal babies that I have done have never had a issue…i’m crying
Looks like it was scraped against something.
Was it dragged on something? That’s what I think of when I saw that…
I truly have no words or explanation
I do think she is underage, but I cant place blame on that
Likely mishandling. I cant even scrape off some paint with my nail, WITHOUT varnish or anything.
I have tried to scrape off paint on my own painted baby and cant! Ooooh lawd help me…
Yes you can. Reborns are not for children. If they are misused that is what could happen.
It appears that some kind of force removed that paint. The only time I’ve seen paint come off like that was when I dropped a totally cured leg, with over 20 thin layers of GHSP on it, on the floor. The toes hit the floor hard and tiny spots of paint came off almost all the way down to the vinyl. Paint layers can be worn away if it rests on something for a time that can be somewhat abrasive to it. The ankle looks like a child tried to bit it, and the toes look like it got dragged or rubbed hard enough on something. This is why I stress to buyers that reborns are not toys.
I think shoes probably rubbed that paint off. More than likely a little pair of high tops shoved on and off without socks.
I’m so sorry. It is quite upsetting when stuff like this happens, especially when you know you’ve done everything the right way. The time that it happened with me, the paint had been scraped off by a child. I don’t know how because I haven’t managed to do it on purpose, but she managed. The mother felt like since the doll was expensive that I should be responsible for the damage. Nah. My instructions clearly say that these dolls are not toys. The paint is on there good, but so is the paint of a car. If you sit there rubbing, scraping and scratching at it, you will see damage.
I’m not quite sure how to word it to my customer. My ad clearly states that “Excessive handling may cause shine or damage to your reborn.”
Just like if someone played with a painting long enough, the paint would come off and it wouldn’t be in such good condition any more. I don’t know why people don’t just get their child a cute play doll at Walmart.
Ugh. They see reborns and think their kid needs the most realistic baby! And my little so-and-so is very responsible!
Sorry this is happening to you. It is very upsetting.
Lots of artists have been through this. Sometimes it’s just bad customers looking for their money back, a discount on the next doll, or free repairs.
They aren’t entitled to any of this.
