I didn’t notice this before so your bumping has worked!
I’m DJ. I’ve been on the forum off and on for a while. I forgot I was a member at one point and tried to re-register so now you know I have a horrible memory! I’m almost 54, married for the second time for almost 15 years (the first one lasted about that long but this one is much better!). I have fibromyalgia and chronic depression so I haven’t been well enough to do much since the age of 18. It took the doctors a long time to diagnose me and there isn’t much they can do about the fibro or the depression but treat the symptoms. My husband has been wonderful about dealing with me not being able to do much but it is harder on me to work thru the guilt. Enough down stuff! I live in the country and have most of my life. I’m the seventh of nine kids (the first of the 3 “surprizes” that came after my mom thought she was done - we were the “3 little kids” growing up). We moved around a lot as kids until I was a teen when my parents settled in NC. Both of my parents are deceased. Dad died suddenly after having the onset of Alzheimers, my mom had a heart attack and was supposedly brain dead but after anointing she lived 5 more years. She had brain damage but it gave family more time with her.
I’m married to a wonderful man who is 11 years younger than me so some friends tease me about robbing the cradle. Just wish I could rob a few of your cradles! Your babies are beautiful! Greg works at a nuclear power plant so he works 12 hour shifts. Right now he is starting an outage which means 4 12 hour nights on and one night off. So I’ll have time to reborn while he is sleeping the days away. I have two kids from my first marriage, a boy Josh who’s 26 and whose major accomplishment in my eyes is my new granddaughter Catherine! She’s 7 weeks old and gorgeous! He also is working full time and going to college full time so he is a little busy! My daughter, Jamie, is 23 and manages a used book store which I support buying books - romances for me and everything she can lay her hands on for my younger daughter. My youngest is 12, going on to driving mom crazy 13. I have been homeschooling her which sometimes is too laid back but she loves to read and loves learning about science. All of my kids have some type of mental disease but are not on meds. Son is bi-polar, daughter is bi-polar and OCD and anxiety, and youngest is anxiety and probably attention def. So guilt from passing on the crazy genes! All of them are well-loved by me and they cope well with mom’s down times!
I’ve made several dolls - more if you count the ones I stripped and did again or the ones I did only a little on or the mini circo dolls…not really sure how many. I started with seconds and thirds. I sold 3 on ebay for what I had into them plus one little one. One I made with my husband’s hair that is a keeper. He grows a ponytail every year. The first one went to our daughter as a keepsake, the second one I got to use and I tease him that it is spring and time for another harvest! Our daughter has long hair that gets tangled and I threaten to harvest hers too. LONG golden brown streaked hair. So tempting.
As for my youngest, Caitlyn, she is a little jealous of the dolls but can’t explain why so I try not to play with them as much as I want to. I’m the mom to the neighborhood and now grandma to one of the neighborhood kid’s baby so I don’t want her to feel too threatened. All of the kids are grown now so she doesn’t have friends her age something I wish she did have. Caitlyn was my animal lover, Jamie loved her babies but now is too grown up to love the reborns so I’m already planning to work on Catherine! Is it wrong to already be storing dolls for a 7 week old? Just a few babies, two doll cribs, a doll stroller, plus the girls Step 2 doll furniture! Brought another baby doll today at a thrift store. Figure I can use some of the furniture to display my dolls…just an excuse to spoil her!
I love God too and am active on a church forum. I don’t get to church since I have health problems and it’s a long way to travel. I have to take a ferry to get to church or shopping unless I drive an hour. My husband isn’t involved in church but does believe in God. Hardest part is that my two older two aren’t in church anymore.
As you can tell, I get carried away writing and talking. I have good neighbors but have a hard time calling them and my family. Pyscho thing! I can write online or talk if they call. So now it’s someone else’s turn.
Welcome DJ. So happy you shared and I look forward to seeing your babies. This is not only a good place to share and learn about reborning but to ask for support of any kind.
This really is a forum of friends who all love reborning!!!
Hi all! I have been a member for awhile now and guessed I had better post an intro since this thread got bumped. lol I come online and read posts everyday but have been a little afraid to actually post myself. But after reading and seeing how wonderful all you ladies and gents are and how very nice well here I go! I am a wife and mother of three beautiful children. I started reborning when I got a kit from Hobby Lobby and was hooked! I need to take some pics and post. Little Zoe has just the basic blushing done. No veining or anything but I was still happy with her! Oh and she has hair now! I am now working on a caleb and bella. Hoping to get more dolly dollars so I can get rosebud! I love her and am hoping to get before she’s sold out again! Hoping to have more reborning time to now that school is out. Any hoo! Here’s to lots of Happy reborning days! Oh and for hoping I actually posted right!

Zoe was my first kit (Hobby Lobby too)… I bought more paints and followed a tutorial by Nicole Russell instead of the basic DVD (stripped the first time around)… I have now stripped again and am redoing and rooting… Welcome to the forum… Keep posting and asking questions… when you get to 150 posts, you can enter one of the monthly pageants…
I bought more paints to. I finished zoe before I bought paints though. I actually bought the entire bb kit with bella. I have been lurking around and soaking up all the great tips and tutes everyone has posted. And LOVE looking at all the cute babies! It’s amazing how different the same kit can look.
You are welcome here… many of the ladies have babies for sale and they are not even listed anywhere, so if you see one you like then you need to just ask… sometimes you can buy a baby before they are listed on eBay and save someone the eBay fees… Jump in and ask questions and if you decide you want to attempt the art yourself, there are excellent tutorials on the site and on YouTube to help you get started. Probably even a member near you in California. Sounds like you have had a complicated life to say the very least and you are a survivor… Hope you get your “Paris” baby and that she is everything you expected her to be… Welcome…
Hi, Dorothy! I’m Dorothy too but I go by DJ now. Some variation of Dora has been in my family for years. My mom was Dorothea which is a sister’s middle name. I’m actually named after two of my parents’ friends even if Dad called mom Dorothy. I’ve been Dorothy, Dorothy Joan or DJ to my siblings but decided after my first marriage broke up to make a new start and go by the name I like. So my second husband and all my friends call me DJ now.
Sounds like you’ve had a rough lonely life. Hopefully, you will enjoy the friends here. It’s been great for me. I have a lot of health problems and this is something I can do lying down. I use air dry paints unlike most of the people on here so there isn’t an oven involved or much moving! LOL!! sounds lazy I know but it helps me keep my sanity to have something to do.
I got into this because I wanted a doll…now it’s an addiction trying to make the perfect one. I sell the ones I don’t like but try to make it clear that they aren’t perfect and sell them at a low price since I’m just starting. Sorry you’ve been disappointed in the past. It’s been a challenge to make them and more of a challenge to take the pictures I want! I have made two keepers so far. Jael is one of my first ones, she has my husband’s hair…literally. She’s more of a preemie size and I’ll probably work on her coloring more over time (another advantage of air dry paint is I can play around more when the doll is finished and I see something I want to fix while I’m playing with them!) My second keeper just got finished or almost finished…still may add some to the eyebrows. I haven’t found a name and may just stick with Moby since that is a pretty gender neutral name. Moby makes a great boy or girl depending on hair style.
Just want you to know that there are different ways to make these dolls and that some of us collect them too. Post some photos of your babies sometime. Somebody will have to tell you where to post them but if they are reborns, I’d say the reborn showcase section. Just say if you made the doll or not. It’s fun to just come on here and see what is going on or see photos. You don’t have to post if you don’t want to. And if you want to talk about other things, there’s always off topic. I’m an animal lover too. Six cats, a dog and a ferret. I can understand a little about your leg. I had a bad break a few years ago and was off my leg for six months. I still use a wheelchair for long distances due to the leg and also back problems but fortunately can walk most days. Will they be able to teach you to use a prothesis or walker at all? Wheelchairs are a pain!
Anyway, forgive the long posts, folks! I get carried away!
Happy anniversary a few days early! Mine was yesterday - 15 years already (also a second marriage) Sounds like you have your hands full. The neighbor boys are functioning autistic - they’re now 26, 22, and 19. The nineteen year old is usually here during the day. I hope your son isn’t too bad.
Unfortunately, the three autistic neighbor boys here come from a very poor family with no ambitions for them. The older two tried a little college but didn’t go to class or dropped out. None of them has ever worked. They did finish high school. The mom is a sweet lady who’s always stayed home. The dad works sometimes, meaning rarely but he also has the misfortune of having eye and teeth problems and sad to say appearance does count. But so does trying. Father also has temper problems including abuse. Just not a good family situation in a lot of ways.
The oldest comes and goes - long story. The middle boy goes to the library a lot and to another neighbor’s. They just got the two youngest back on disability. Jonathan stays here and I’m trying to teach him some basic skills. He loves to help. Wish I could convince him to go to the “college” the state has for disabled kids. They would teach him to drive, hold a job, budget, etc. He doesn’t want to leave home even if he tells me that he’s thinking about it. My daughter who is 12 is having to realize that he just doesn’t have the ability to do some things or remember how to do something. It’s good for her to realize how lucky she is but also how to be patient!
On a positive note, another friend’s son with Aspargers is in his early twenties and doing great. He just has to keep things in the same routine or he gets off keel. He’s been able to go to college and work. Family encouragement makes a difference. I know there are also degrees of autism but sounds like you are one of the lucky ones!
Looks like you couldn’t get your photos up I had the same problem. You can’t add them by copying and pasting. Under the submit button, you will see a box. Use browse to select the photo off your computer. Then click on add the file. And repeat for each photo. If they are too big (and I’m not sure how the file size is determined!) they will upload one by one. Or post them on photobucket and paste the link here. I’m just getting the hang of it myself so you may need more help!
I can see them now. Stupid computer! Sometimes I wonder if the computer messes up on purpose just to mess with my brain! Cute babies. Well loved snugglies. I know nothing about wigs other than that they are what was used on most of my dolls that I have that aren’t reborn. Basically two Native americans with 1/4 limbs, one porceilan boy, a girl baby and the dolls from when the girls were little which are pretty much packed away. Then my two keeper reborns. Maybe one of us can help you with Olivia. I don’t know about genesis since I use air dry paints but we could walk you thru it if you want to try her yourself.
I have two unreborns that I dress but they only take 0-3 months clothes so your Dorothy must be bigger. Zachary is only 24" and Gabriella is only 21" but she looks way bigger than my Moby. Chubby girl! Needs some ink removed but I keep losing the zit remover. I’m going to find Zachary a new home sometime. I just can’t handle the feel of the porceilan long enough to change his clothes even. I just need to make a baby to fit his clothes!
Would love to help you with your babies!
I’ve played around with reborning the little circo dolls from target. They’re about 7" with a soft body or 8" if you get the one with a vinyl body. They work great with the acrylics although I messed up tonight and added a little too much green to tone down their color. It can be fun just to relax and do a little one. And at $3.29 it is hard to resist!
Bump…Welcome to everyone who is new to the forum. We would love to hear a little bit about you…
Olivia is adorable and your “First Reborn” is far from “horrible” as you described her!! You can tell that her “Mommy” loves her… Poke around as often as you can and when Olivia gets a little older perhaps you can start on number 3…
I’m sure that Liv will be a fantastic mommy just like you are! And all that practice with her babies will pay off in the future! It sounds like you may have problems getting rid of any new “babies” with her around…my problem is getting rid of babies with me around…I can’t bear to part with two of them already and have a feeling that I’m going to end up with more!
Good luck with your MIL’s baby. Hope you get it done in time. And hope you are able to adopt soon. My youngest is so much younger than her siblings and I’ve always wished she had one close in age. My older two are only 3 years apart and were inseparable when they were younger. All that playing with dolls with his sister paid off for my son…he’s a great dad now! So will be praying for you to get another baby soon!
