Genesis Paint Not Curing

Did I read that we shouldn’t use water to “test” if the paint comes off? This is not even logical because if the paint is cured correctly then rubbing it with plain water should not make any paint come off. Thinner, maybe yes, but not water.
Also, other artists use Genesis for painting on canvas. I wonder if they have this same problem. I don’t recall Genesis ever saying before that we can’t use it on vinyl. You’d think that years and years of artists using it on vinyl would have come to their attention and they would have made a statement about the inappropriateness of its use on vinyl before now, if it wasn’t meant for this. Just an excuse if they try this to cover themselves instead of making this right.
And why there hasn’t been a statement from them yet is beyond me. Reborn artists are the biggest users of their product and the loss from our future purchases would be big.

Great video and proof that paint is not curing! :frowning:

My question is how do reborn suppliers continue selling a paint that won’t cure on vinyl, knowing it’s being used on vinyl?

I’m wondering if they have really even gotten reports yet. This still seems pretty new.

Not to mention that that paint rubs off so it would be hard to put another layer on it without loosing some. This is what my issue was in the first place. I did the mottling on my kit and when I started doing the creasing I noticed all the blue was rubbing off. I’m not sure how I would paint a sealer layer and then pounce on top of my mottling without loosing it.

I would try it also if I knew for sure it wouldn’t make my kit gritty like sealing with genesis did. Can anyone give input on this?

Well yes and that my red does not rub off with water shows this.

I would like to know your results and if it will look grainy.
I know I said it many times, but I know that paint on sealing vinyl doesn’t look clean and crisp like I like.

I’ve wondered about that too. Even though reborners are supposedly the largest purchasers of Genesis paints. I’ve read articles about canvass artist pretty much rejecting the paints but that they really took off among the reborn community.

True. I often have to rinse off a head that’s been painted because of dust or my son splattering something on my WIPs. The water has never removed the paint after being cured.

@quiltsabunch that’s what happened with me. I do a blue toning layer closer towards the end before I apply my varnish. :persevere:The paint started coming off.

I feel your pain. Doesn’t help the situation though.

Oh no, now I’m worried. I bought some GHSP about 2 months ago. I haven’t opened most of the jars yet.

Test them first…

Hopefully yours are ok. I’ve gotten other colours this year as well and the ultramarine has really been the only problem.

My bad ones have been two different shades of Q magenta, and Pyrolle red 02. Interestingly the consistency was almost gel like. Not a solid as usual. @quiltsabunch what about yours?

Yes the ultramarine blue seemed thinner as well. More gel like then the thick solid paste that I’m used to.

I agree. The bad ones I had would definitely seep out slowly if the jar was on its side vs all my other colors. They would be in the jar as they were. And all my paint is less than 2 years old so it isn’t a freshness thing.

Definitely sounds like they need a recall.
If the texture is different as well, I wonder if an ingredient was missed during production.

That is interesting. I was wondering if anyone noticed a difference in consistency (formula?), which could show that something is missing in the ingredients or an ingredient is different than what it was pre-COVID.

I noticed how easily Shelly Marie was able to stir Amanda’s ultramarine blue in the jar. I have never tried to stir my paints as they are so thick; never seemed necessary. I always just remove the paint with a brush and add to thinner in my pallet. The paint is always firm in the jar. The way it stirred for Shelly Marie, it reminded me of some of the air dry paints, like when Waterborne paints from HunnyBuns were new and sold in small pots. We had to stir them.
