Difference in mohair

I see what what was said about the mohair. I brought this mohair from dolls by Sandie. It was in sale. But I want some better mohair. I see the silky shiny mohair on baby pics that are posted on here. I did purchase some mohair the other day from esty, but I’m gonna need more. What other sites do you order your mohairb n what

brand from?

Is the one in the picture Ruby red? That was the only thing I have rooted with and hated it! All other babies I have done were bald or I used prisma pencils for hair.

I did buy some better mohair, but I havent used it yet. I ordered from Angora’s because she has a easy to order from website. AngoraMohtique - Etsy

Everyone else I have seen people mention is a message them here, etsy, or facebook. And sometimes they are out.

But others I have heard of are
@CJSPremium also on facebook at J's Premium Mohair | Facebook

@sugargliderus

@angelas817 or esty AngelasPremiumMohair - Etsy (she post on here when she has some)

It is medium brown. I ordered hair from Angela’s premium hair the other day when she posted oh here. I have like 2 more packs of curly mohair that I brought a while ago from I think dolls by sandie that I have to use up as well.

I meant the “brand” Ruby Red. Is that what Dolls by Sandie sells? That is what type Bountiful baby sells…

I primarily use Delta Dawn mohair. When she has some available I get an email. It’s pricy but worth it. I can usually do about 4 heads with 1/2 oz. As I get better at rooting I have less and less waste. I’ve also used Angela’s and it’s amazing.

Really, 4 heads? Can you post a picture of a baby you have rooted?

Here’s 3 that were done with Delta Dawn

Nice hair. What size gauge needle you use? I believe the ones I have is a 38. I have to go back n look at Kim’s videos n rooting. Then order the gauges she suggest for rooting.

I wanted to attempt to root her eyebrows, but not with this hair.

That’s a gorgeous rooting job on those babies!

I use a 42g or 43g forked mostly. If I want thick hair I use a barbed needle. More recently I’ve been using a 46g forked. I bought them last year at ROSE. The container had 10 needles. I’m down to 3. As you can see the one I’m using at the moment is a little worn out

Ok, thank you.

May I offer a suggestion??? First as you know already—get some good mohair! Next, cut your mohair in shorter lengths about 2 inches or so, that way you won’t have to cut off so much at the end and you won’t have all the waste. Make sure you keep your hair going all in one direction after you cut it or when you root it (if you get it going opposite directions) it will become very frizzy. When I cut my hair into sections I lay the sections on a paper towel with the works “cut end” at the top. Then I lay the cut hair on the paper towel all in the same direction (the cut end up towards the words) that way I don’t get hair mixed up or turned around going the wrong direction. Did all that make sense??? Trust me this will save you lots of hair. Watch out for those plugs. Maybe you could try a 'finer" needle. Good Luck, don’t get discouraged, rooting takes a while to learn, but you will get better with each baby!!

Thank you. I know about cutting the mohair in half n to root from the cut end. I’m gonna order some better needles. The needle I’m using came with the beginners kit. I ordered when I did my first reborn.

I don!t think the problem is the quality of the mohair, but the needle you are using. The rooting looks “pluggy” because there are lots of hairs in each hole. Rooting looks best if there is 1-2 hairs in each hole. Takes ALOT of patience and practice to get a realistic result! Don’t give up - try different needles and techniques!

I agree with Pia. What I am seeing is the same kind of plugs I got when I first started rooting. I was using a 38 needle just like you. When I switched to finer needles, it fixed everything. I recommend a forked needle, 42 or 43. The needle has to be held in the correct position to catch hairs, but once you get it, voila! It’s like magic. My 43 almost always root one or two hairs at a time with no plugginess. Give them a try, but read some of the posts about needle position first or you will not be very pleased with them. But trust me…once you get them, they are very easy to use.
