I found a nice used set of acrylic paints. I’d love to eventually mix my own paints! Is there a certain type of acrylic paint I should look for? Can I use the acrylic in metal tubes? Thanks so much and God bless
You can use any artist grade acrylic. Some people I know use those and mix them with Liquitex Ultra Matte Gel and distilled water to create their own paint for dolls. You might talk to @allhisgrace because she mixes a lot of her own paints from acrylics and can tell you about which mediums work well too.
Thank you @anjsmiles! I think the set has a tube of gel medium as well. I’d love to be able to create my own colors
There are four grades of acrylic paints-craft, student, artist and professional. You want to use professional archival quality paints otherwise they will probably fade over time and may rub off. I use Liquitex Professional Soft Body paints. They are archival and have a high light fastness. I got a set of 6 basic colors in 22ml tubes for $20 at Michael’s. I also add a little bit of Liquitex Ultra Matte Gel to my paints and I use Liquitex Professional Matte Varnish as a sealer. All of these products are reasonably priced. I really like them.
I also use the Liquitex paints and you can certainly mix your own colors. I prefer to mix mine in the glass paint jars that I get at Blick instead of mixing them and then putting them into the tubes. I don’t know about the Loew Cornell paints because I have never used or researched them on their quality or performance.
Thank y’all so so much for all the great tips!! I’ll let y’all know which paints I decide to get and how it goes. I’m sure I’ll have more questions
