All About Gemini® Heat Set Paints

I haven’t tried mixing their paint in their varnish.

I was thinking I might to try one of these, but not really sure what the difference would be in using them. What can anyone tell me about them to help me decide?

They are both the same thing but with different names? Maybe @bbsupport can help. I use Mona Lisa most of the time but Gamsol if I am using flesh colors.

Hi @quiltsabunch,

The Solvent is a highly purified and extra mild odorless mineral spirit. The paint will drop out of it after you let it sit for a few min in the pallet like all other solvent based thinners. The Thinner is a non solvent based thinner that does not air dry and it stays mixed with the paint in the pallet while working with it.

Thanks,

I use both as well. I just figured I’d give this a try. I ended up getting someone to order both for me and I’ll get it when I’m there for DOTWE.

Amanda, the thinner is clear and has a slight oily like consistency and does not immediately flash off the pieces. It keeps the pigments in the paints well suspended so that they do not fall to the bottom of the well as quickly as they do with just solvent. You can also mix both of these products into your paint if you want the benefits of the thinner but wish to have the mix more watery like you get with solvent. I do this for washes. If you are sensitive to solvents (like I am) you can paint with just the thinner but you might want to do as I have and use pegs to suspend your pieces in your oven so that you do not smudge anything laying them down.

Thanks Angie. I’ll get to try them after DOTWE. I’m happy with my Gamsol, but I figure you never know what you’re missing unless you give it a try.
