Why can't the companies

Why can’t the companies at least send out the vinyl kits clean?

The amount of gritty, greasy kits I’ve heard of, and how often they’ve needed multiple soapy soaks and alcohol wipe downs, before even starting the paint job would probably discourage me.

Wouldn’t doing so improve the quality greatly?
Less prep work for artists!

This is a great question!

More labour for them means more cost added to the kit. I would rather do it myself for free.

My understanding is that the “dirt” and such is from taking the kits from the mold. I cannot even begin to imagine the amount of man hours that would take in the factory, added to our cost, PLUS, I think most of us would still wash them in soapy dawn dish detergent, or something equivalent. I do not rub mine down in alcohol after the dawn wash. I have never had an inordinate amount of oils and dirt on any of my kits. I only have purchased from BB. From my understanding, this is just one of the things that come with the territory, as folks say. We get the kits, they come with some things that make us want to wash them. I have never had a problem washing them. It is a very simple process and doesn’t, at least in my experience, require elbow grease. Just a good washing.

I guess I’ve been lucky…I’ve never had a really “dirty” kit…like Jacelyn5440…I never use alcohol either…just a good scrub with Dawn.

I haven’t had many kits that weren’t BB, maybe six or seven, but I’ve never found that they were dirty or toooo oily. I might be a bad artist, but when I buy from BB, I never even find a reason to wash them. I just paint and seal well and have never had a problem with the paint

My first Huxley was my only experience with a really dirty kit. I’ve always read about people getting them. But til you get one, you can’t really understand. That kit was crazy! After several dawn washes he just kept oozing grease. And he had gritty stuff that absolutely required scrubbing. He ended up with several dawn baths and several alcohol washes. I thought he was never going to come clean. But he finally did.

I am sorry he gave you so much trouble in the beginning. He turned out just awesome! I know some folks seem to get them a lot, but I am thankful that, so far, I have not. At least if it happens to me I will know to just keep scrubbing. :slight_smile:

Thank you. Yes! If it ends up happening to you just keep scrubbing. :wink:

I’m noticing more and more dirt specks on kits that have been marked off as being “inspected”
It can be a little annoying lol

Yikes. I have never had a “dirty” baby. I give them a warm soapy rinse, no scrubbing, am I missing something? Yikes.

The kit I am working on right now was so greasy and sticky when I washed it it actually changed color. Here is one washed leg and one not washed yet

Most of my kits haven’t been too bad, but some have been downright horrible. Some I’ve had to scrub multiple times, even soak over night. I’ve had great success in the dishwasher, but too much eating goes on in here, so it’s always busy. :rofl: Can’t remember who, but I just saw that someone washed them in the washing machine, which I thought was brilliant. Can’t wait to try that!

@quiltsabunch, that’s a big difference, wow!

I know! I thought I received an ugly yellow coloured kit and really it was a pretty pink one.
