Why are so many people giving up reborning?

I have noticed especially lately people are selling all their kits ect

Fakes are hard to compete with, people selling dolls from their collection at lower prices, inflation, etc

Sales are rare lately.

It is definitely not a money making endeavor anymore. Might be a good time to pick another hobby?

Pia…you are right… I think alot of people think they will make lots of money…even enough for it to be a “job”. Sadly, there are very few people that can do this…I’m not even sure if prototype artists even can anymore…

Everything is so expensive and if you add the hours spent in creating…you dont usually even hit minimum wage :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

This art is definitely a hobby art.

I figure I make about $10 an hour…

All true. You wont make money off of this but if you reborn knowing this, then its easier to plan for offsetting costs.

I LOVE to paint. That is why Im doing it and if I cover most of the costs, thats a bonus

I like to think the reborn world is just going through a change and will become something different.

I did it for many years but ever since the advent of scam sites, and people trying to not pay for a doll, etc, I had to sell all my supplies and give it up :frowning: The price of supplies got too expensive for me also.
it was such a fun hobby but things were not selling, even at lower prices.

It’s so sad, since I work in the entertainment industry there’s often big gaps in work. Selling reborns was a way to make a bit of money in those gaps. Sadly not anymore

Are you going to pick another hobby?

I know I will keep painting as long as I can afford to…

No… I have at least a 3 year supply of kits and GHSP to keep me going…

I think I am going to mirror what everyone else is saying.

  1. Get rich quick didn’t happen for those who thought it would. That happens every year.
  2. It is an expensive hobby and not everyone who loves it can make babies that sell, if they are depending on sales to keep affording the hobby this was not a good couple years.
  3. People get bored or can’t really make the babies they want to.
  4. Knock-offs over saturated the market with aggressive and dishonest marketing. It ruined trust, and created a cheaper way to get a baby. Some People are still Ok with an 89.00 Temu fake.
  5. These babies are expensive, some people just can’t afford art dolls. The economy has been rough for a while this year is not exception.

Will it bounce back? It has, people who have been doing this for more than 20 years can tell you it ebbs and flows.

I think if you love doing this for you, it is an awesome hobby and keep making babies just because it make you happy.

If you want to try and make this a “business” don’t quite your day job, dabble and see how it goes.

I think artists with a good client base, stellar reputation, who work hard, and have A-list skills are still doing ok. Great sculpts are still selling.

This is a hobby I started almost 3 years ago, because I love dolls. I have made only 2 vinyl dolls and one silicone work in process now, but have happens in-between, I have spent thousands, yes!. If you don’t make them to sale them, just to give to family at first, by the time you can sale them, it adds up. I just enjoy/get sad some times when no matter how diligent you follow all instruction and the result isn’t at least satisfactory and, in top of that, so expensive thats when you looks for alternatives to the hobby.
