I don’t use plugs unless the openings are raggedy. I got one kit that was like that. I think it was a seconds kit. Anyway, I use moleskin. I buy mine at Walmart. You just cut out a circle to fit, peel off the back and stick it on. Easy peasy. It also comes in a roll but I haven’t been able to find it in the stores-just online.
When I went to Walmart to look for it all I could find was a small rectangle of moleskin for like $4.00 it wasn’t enough for 1 doll. So they may have been out. I will keep checking, meanwhile I am going to try the plastic bottle.
MOLESKIN!!!
@Nikkiroc OK, I hear you. I will keep checking for it. I trust and value your opinion. You know how anxious and expensive your first reborn is. Then you get addicted and keep buying kits.
I have put a few reborn kits together myself and I have used the plugs for the head, arms and legs. I also used the neck ring on the neck. That’s just me. I just wanted the cotton and glass beads to stay in and kind of seal the limbs. I just put on the plugs. I didn’t use glue or anything. But that’s just me. Different people use different techniques. You’ll find the one that’s right for you Good Luck!
I always use plugs and the neck ring. I also glue my plugs in. The only time I won’t use them is when I do kits from some where besides bountiful baby. And for those I will cover the opening with felt or moleskin to seal.
I like the stability of the joints with the plugs in place and they are inexpensive. I like the neck ring because of the added strength to the neck. You can’t squeeze it with those items in place lol
@rebornmommysince2013 I am going to use the neck rings. Do the plugs feel hard through the vinyl?
Sometimes they do feel a little hard at the top but otherwise I think they’re ok. It makes me feel more secure to use them. But like I said that’s just me lol Good Luck with assembling your doll!
Ok… Go to Walmart, and ask the pharmacist he will know right where to find it for you!!!
️️️
I always use the neck ring, if I don’t use nothing else. Makes it easy to turn n position the head.
If you don’t have a neck ring, you can use paper glaze:-)
I use plugs and rings. Unless it is one that doesn’t fit any… but I prefer to use them. I like the extra strength at the area where the cable tie is.
My last doll didn’t fit any plugs for the limbs, but I ring jointed the legs so those are reinforced, then I stuffed them like normal and added a cotton ball at the hole then glued on a white circle of poster board. A neck ring and plug did fit the head though. I think I will invest in some moleskin also for times like this.
I use the cotton cosmetic pads…glued on . Be sure to get the ones without holes! No cutting for most legs and heads perfect fit, trim down on arms.
Ahh love this idea.
I wonder how hard it is to skin a “mole”??? lololo
I use plugs
I like the plugs, but always forget to order them so I startes using moleskin and love it. I would’t go back. But, the plugs have the advantage of not allowing the area to collapse so the limbs and head are a bit more secure.
I use the plugs too. If I vacant find one to fit I glue cardboard down with e6000
The package of moleskin in the foot care section of the pharmacy has 3 or 4 layers. It’s not just one piece. There’s plenty to do several dolls. The adhesive on it is strong, and I love not having to wait for glue to dry after applying it.
We all have our favorite ways of finishing the limbs, but there are lots of different ways to do it. You will find what you like
I use plugs. I had bought some cotton rounds from Dolls by Sandi but didn’t like them so I went back to using the plugs. Because their so inexpensive whenever I put in a BB order for something I always buy a bunch of plugs and neck rings to have on hand. I agree with what 2layz said about them giving more stability to the limbs.
