I am new to rooting and I am trying to root with reborn. But I have had 43g notch needles and have broke every 1 of them. Does anyone know of what time I needles I can get that won’t break as easy??
Try filling the head with poly pellets up to the neck flange and packing them in tightly with paper towels. I use air dry paints and don’t heat my heads. This method keeps the vinyl from ‘giving’ so the needles don’t bend and break. I hardly ever break a needle.
I also use air dry paints. But I don’t have any poly pellets but I have stuffing. Which size neddle should I order? I was going to go to dollsbysandie.com to order some new ones. I was going to order the biggest neddle and was going to get a 40g crown neddle which has 3 barbs. Would this one be ok or should I order a different size? They have 40g, 42g, 43g, and 46g. But they have compact, crown, folked, and notch. So it’s confused on which one to get. I thought maybe the bigger needle wouldn’t break as easy. Any idea of which neddle I should order??
Go to CustomDollBaby.com, if u type in which rooting needle do I need her you tube video should pop up. She gives you great directions and tells u which rooting needle to use for what hair. I think most reborners use 42 g because it leaves a smaller hole then say a 38g. CustomDollBaby has a great free class on how to reborn. I did it on my own time and I think a lot of reborners did her classes to. It depends on hair type etc but you only want to grab one or two hairs at a time. Be patient because your first time you might mess ups. Research rooting diagrams, those will tell u which way to point your needle. you should draw your rooting pattern on the head first. That helped me to stay in line and helped to make it look natural. Irresistables.com and heavenly Illusions also have needles. Keep at it, I broke so many when I first starteds.
Stuffing might work but it’s pretty soft. It might be worth it to buy a bag of polypellets. heavenlyillusions.com does have good needles. So does heidifeathers.com.
I mostly use 42g 3 barbs Heavenly Illusion Pink needle which sadly is out of stock now (tariffs from Germany??) However, maybe it’s not needles problem. Is head that you are rooting too hard?
Some of them are almost impossible to root if you don’t use a heating lamp with those.
My pink needle lasts though several heads.
I am doing a realborn so it’s real soft.
Ok thank you. Just seems like the needles from dollsbysandie break too easy.
I’ve bought them from her and had no problem.
Try https://www.nukumrebornstudio.com/
I heard many good things about her needles.
Rooting is an art unto itself, don’t get discouraged it takes a lot of practice, be patient. Some heads are quite hard and the use of a heat light inside will help immensely. If the head isn’t too hard then maybe you should start with a thicker needle. Personally I use a 1 barb needle in a small size but they are a bit harder to work with in the beginning. The larger the number of the needle the “smaller” size hole they make. Like a 46 would be much smaller than a 40. There are different ways of rooting, you’ll get it eventually. Patience is your best teacher. Good Luck.
Thanks you so much. I really think it was how I put the needle in the wooden tool. Which I think that is what made my needles to break. I should have seen videos on how to put the needle in the tool. I order a 40g crown needle and I know the proper way to do it now. So I think I won’t break anymore.
I use the pink felting/rooting pen. I find it easier than the wooden tool. Much less of the needle sticks out so they don’t bend so easily. That’s what causes them to break.
Lol I just ordered this pink felting rooting pen a few hours ago. It say it has 2 different length. Which length do you use to root your baby? And what size rooting needles do you use this this tool?
I hope it works out for you. I don’t use a “holder” at all, I root with just the bare needle, works for me.
Thanks. I would like to try the rooting needles from Heavenly Illusion. I have heard very good things about there needles. when I have more money. I want to try to get either 42g or 43g down the road. But I already ordered the needles from dollsbysandie.com (40g crown). and also ordered the pink felting rooting pen. The wooden tool that I use kinda made my needle not to be straight and kinda curved to the right. And think I inserted the needle into the wooden rooting tool wrong which I think caused my needles to break.
This is a silly question, but did you use cut needles in your wooden tool? If they still had the 90 degree angle bit at the bottom, they wouldn’t fit the tool properly and would definitely break. I only ask because you mention that your needles curved to the right.
I usually use a 38 gauge uncut spiral needle.
I like to use felting pen, but often I use just a needle, holding in my hand. You don’t have to put them in any ‘tool’ to use then.
I can’t use just the needle. It hurts my hand.
