What is the value of your box opening?

That’s really not that expensive for something so awesome! I wish they came in bigger sizes, I’d use them for my more expensive babies.

I don’t get a lot for my dolls, but the higher price the more and or better the box opening. They go home wearing a sleeper, wrapped in a blanket and tied in a bow. I include a Carters outfit, extras like bib, onesie, diaper, a lovie toy, pacifier, socks, hat or hairbands depending on the gender sent. I have Tons more girl things than boy because almost any time I had given the option for gender, they chose girl, plus girl stuff is so cute.

I’m speaking as a collector here:

I think sometimes buyer’s expectations regarding box openings can be related to what they might have seen on YouTube videos. Before I received my first doll, I watched a lot of Kelly Maple box openings. That says it all!

As from my personal experience, my first doll was a budget baby. He came wearing pajamas with a plain white blanket in a plastic bag. There was a pacifier and one or two diapers, if I remember correctly. And I was ok with that because it was a budget baby.

The next few dolls were more expensive and came with more items in the box opening and it made for a lovely experience!

Even with the two dolls that I sent to an artist to be “touched up” returned to me with a small box opening.

We have a chain store where I live called ‘Dollar Tree’. You can get: rattles, teethers, baby bottles, pacifiers, bibs, washcloths, beautiful fleece blankets, sometimes pacifier holders and infant hooded towels.

We also have a lot of regular dollar stores around here too, and you can sometimes find different stuff there too: t-shirts, etc…

I live near a few Target and Walmart stores and have never found a bargain there.

I am an avid shopper of thrift stores and have found gorgeous clothes and even items like pacifier holders with the tags from the store still on them! As long as the clothes are clean, not stained, and appropriate, then I’m fine with used too.

I’m from Paraguay in South America, and here everything is too expensive, baby clothes, blankets, pacifiers everything, but especially clothes cost triple what it costs in the United States, I would have loved to have something like a Dollar tree store here💔

Dollar tree is raising prices. Its been all over the news. Things will soon be more than a dollar.

I don’t see how they have made it this long without raising prices. So I don’t blame them at all for raising them now.

I have been all over the place with box openings. I now have a standard box opening, I do add a few little things to return clients or dolls that don’t really fit with a standard box opening. I include it in my price for the baby.

Two diapers
A pair of socks
Baby goes home dressed, and comes with an outfit, usually pajamas
Headband or hat
Hair condtioner (if rooted)
A little toothbrush
A preemie bottle with a few chocolates
paci
Blanket

Honestly I think the person getting the baby most likely has shopped for the baby. Everyones taste is different, what I send is mostly practical and mostly tradition and it helps insulate the baby a little in the box, I hate using bubble wrap but these babies are fragile, if I can use less, that’s something.

I have stopped buying baby clothes, my cupboard is full and I feel kinda awful about it. I am going to use what I have and start thrifting baby clothes. I find so many really nice things out there that could and should get another chance. It is also fun to mix and match and embellish thrifty finds. I won’t buy anything worn-out, torn, stained, or has any unpleasant odors. I launder everything I buy in super hot water and baby soap. I have been leaving new stuff with tags on the rack for people looking for clothes for a non-vinyl baby. We have awesome consignment stores. The funny thing is I have at least a year maybe two of clothing I have slowly collected…What was I thinking, why are baby clothes so addicting?

As a painter and collector - I like to weigh and dress the baby myself. So all I need and want is the painted kit.

I love reading that. I think if I collected I would feel the same. I know a lot of people look forward to little presents but I would want to shop while I waited and pick out all my favorite things.

I send home modest box openings with my babies but I do try to make them a pleasant experience. I shop sales and clearance racks all the time so I can get nice things for less. I have good resources like TJMaxx, Ross, Bealls, Marshalls and Walmart here. Sometimes I can find a deal at Target but not as much so. I tend to avoid the Dollar Tree now days for box openings when it comes to baby’s items because to me they all look cheap. I DO get my gift bags, ribbons and things to make the packaging nice there though.

As something to consider, I have found most collectors are over run with onesies. I have had collectors to tell me they don’t mind sleepers, gowns and rompers but would prefer not to have onesies. I think it is because people get them cheaper in bundles
and send so many out with the dolls. I have one repeat customer who literally sent me a whole box of brand new onesies two years ago to have to send out with my dolls because she has received so many in her doll box openings and does not use them. So now I try to keep that to a minimum and only send 1 or 2 at most if I send any with the exception of white onsies which work well under other clothing.

@Gabriell well you are an exception, lol. You make and put together some very nice things. I don’t know how you do it but your accessories and clothing options are very unique!

I always put a onesie under clothes, but almost never send extra, except for clothes that requires one.

I find it difficult to never have any feedback on my box opening as it’s hard to know if I do it right or not.

You do wonderfully!!!:heart::grin:

Same I avoid anything from the dollar tree unless I’m using acetone to take off tacky patterns from pacifiers or if I’m sending Disney princess stuff (which I really don’t do) cuz those pacifiers and the brush sets they have of the Disney princesses are actually cute. I use the rainbow sparkle tissue paper from there, and the red or clear plastic giant gift bags from there. And if I can find the color of crinkle paper filler I like I buy that and use that too. But for the actual stuff to send like blankets and stuff I feel like I’m past that stage as far as quality. But I did used to use them.
