What is the value of your box opening?

Just curious the cost of the box opening you all include with each sale. Does it depend on price of the doll or do you usually include the same things for each doll? What amount do you spend out of pocket for the items included in each box opening?

For me it depends on the price of the doll. The higher end ones get higher end clothes.

For the lower end one, they get an outfit and maybe a sleeper and paci. They will be wrapped in a blanket. These clothes are all new and come from Carters or somewhere else when I find sales.

It vary between 25$ and 60$, depending on the price of the doll. Always include: onesie, blanket, hat, socks, diapers and at least one outfit. I include the cost in my price.

What range do you spend on the items? I’m just wondering how I compare to others and what buyers are expecting.

It depends on the price. Honestly I don’t go all out for basic priced dolls. Too many people expect a huge box opening. It cuts into what little profit is made.

Now. If I sell a higher prices doll I will go and buy a few extra things.

What would you consider basic vs higher priced just to clarify?

If its a BB sculpt I tend to sell them for 550$"and in that case I include an extra outfit. Extra fleece blanket and one pacifier.

If it’s a limited edition or sold out sculpt I list them higher. Usually 850$ or more depending. In that case I purchase higher priced clothes and give 3 or more extra outfits and extras like a baby brush and booties and mittens and hats.

Hope that makes sense?

Hmmmm… maybe $6 for sleeper, $6-$8 on an outfit, blanket could be around $8 since I buy fluffy ones to help protect them in the box. Paci is $5. So less than $30 for the lower end dolls.

Higher end babies get the same blanket, but will be dressed in a really nice outfit, maybe shoes. They get a nice sleeper, but it will be a brand name that I got on sale. So maybe $45-$50.

Not really, I mean, I use most of those items to safely wrap the doll :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I have to add my 2 cents here. I remember discussing this years ago and at that time people were including a small extra (maybe an article of clothing) over and above what the baby came dressed in. This was a “simple” Thank You to the new owner for purchasing. THEN things started to get a little crazy (if I remember correctly), pretty soon people seemed to become very greedy and wanted to know what the baby came with? WHAT? I thought you were interested in the doll, not just what you were going to get with the doll. It got really bad for a while, if there didn’t seem to be enough “extras” that were going to come with the doll, then they kind of backed off. WTH, really?!! I still haven’t figured out what was going on in their heads, were they ever interested in the doll at all? I think things have been turning around a bit (for the better) finally, and I feel that has been due in part to the artist’s cutting back on the amount of stuff they include. Another thing-----when you go to the trouble to shop and buy clothing for this baby you just sold, most of the time what you purchase isn’t the new owners taste. So just let them get what it is they LIKE for their new addition… JMO, (I’m old and rather opinionated)!! LOL

I agree with you… I don’t feel like I am overboard. I include an additional outfit, bracelet, pacifier and clip, blanket, bottle and a stuffie.

I definitely agree with you about all of this, including tastes in clothes. I only have bought one doll where I loved the clothes. Everything else I got was just okay. One doll came with obviously used clothes (no issue with second hand, I just think it needs to look new).

I wanted the doll itself, did not care one bit about the clothes.

That should be all that’s required for a nice box opening. NOW if you were selling a doll for several thousand dollars-----ok, maybe add a little more! LOL

That’s good Pia, glad to see you do so well. I have only sold a few babies and the same lady has purchased them, we belong to a doll club together. Although others like them, they just don’t seem to be interested in paying a few hundred dollars for a doll. I usually sell mine for $375 and that’s with rooted hair. It just doesn’t see worth it to me anymore. I love to make them but my house is overrun with the little boogers. I’m not computer literate so I don’t know how to set things up to sell and I’m afraid of scammers. I don’t want to put a couple hundred dollars in a doll and have somebody beat me out of it, know what I mean? And everything is a struggle for me. I hear forum ladies talking about problems sometimes and others telling them to “just do this or that” and I wouldn’t have a clue where to start. No computer skills, old age again. Wish my Granddaughter (or my great grandkids) lived close to me, they could teach me. Sorry for the babble.

I don’t market well either and haven’t done eBay since early days. Blessed to not have to rely on sales for income. I have a few available now and I may have to reduce the prices to make room for new ones!

Well, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that they sell for you and you can get on with making so more of your gorgeous babies! I always love your rooted hair!
