What is hand applied hair?

Hi there everyone! I’ve been hearing about hand applying hair onto reborn dolls heads? I’m curious as to what it is and how do you do it? Is it instead of rooting? How does it hold up?
Thanks,
Julie

The resulting look is a mixture of painted and rooted

I believe it is hair glued to the head so it does not move. From what I remember file is out on the head and hair laid down on the head and then glued over it… make sense?

So I would lay the hair on the doll’s head and glue over it?

Yup I think if you search the forum you’ll see some good discussion

Yes but I think it looks most natural and is easiest when the hair is directionally rooted first and then the glue is smoothed on over top. @jlesser has done it before I think…

I have never called it hand applied. But yes applied hair is glued down.
I root it first (it looks best this way)
I’ve only done it 3 times I think. And these last 2 were way better than my first try where I didnt root first

I’m finishing one up right now, I don’t like it, not what I invisioned and it feels rough the process is also messy. I won’t be doing it again.i just did it because the head that I using is hard.

I have been interested in trying this! What kind of glue do you use?

I used liquitex matte gel and a disposable mascara brush. It was a bit finicky, have to work fast and in small areas at a time.
