Ladies, what is your opinion of Lara Antonucci e-books. I would like to increase my reborn painting knowledge. Is there a favorite?
Lara’s ebooks are very helpful. For a beginner, I would suggest Basics of Reborning and Beyond Basics eBook.
All of Laras books are helpful and she repeats a lot of info in the beginning of each one so you get a lot of beginner tips in every book. But I would say that any of her beginner books that interests you would be a good starting point. I love her e-books. Her classes…not so much. They are pretty much the e-books broken down into daily activities. But if you are the kind of person who likes a teacher to set the schedule they are great. Also you can enter contests and win logos to display plus a “free” e-book is sent out to you at the end of the class.
Thank you, @carolyn_brady and @honojane. Knowing that you recommend her books help immensely. It is a difficult decision. I have some knowledge from Denise Pratt’s video’s and other links posted on the forum. She has many books one for each color Middle Eastern, African American, Asian, Hispanic, Indian, Ebony; however, I am really confused with the similar colors.“Peaches and Cream” “Milk and Honey” "Strawberry and Cream.
I only have a few of her books, Native Americans and Beyond Basics. At first I was using them with air dry and a few modifications. They are really helpful. Very clear instructions. I admit I skipped a few layers on some dolls but still saw a big improvement. Planning on getting a few more soon.
From what I have read, strawberry is more of a newborn shade, redder. The strawberry paints I had for air dry were a milder shade to me than straight red from Genesis. I love strawberry coloring, probably my favorite. Peaches and cream is more towards the toddler age, smooth and creamy with more yellow undertones than the strawberry. Milk and honey is her fair skin. She has sales often so keep an eye out.
@djjessie228 Thank you for your help. I was so confused.
Wanted to tell you that her specific books for different ethnic groups are on my wish list. She does use a lot of layers so plan for that. She makes it easier by tellinfg you how much and what shade, plus you can skip a little or adjust to your tastes. Also part of her books might be repetitive to experienced artists like info on stuffing and weighting. Enough new info to make it worth it especially when you realize that selling one doll for more pays for the book.
Thank you, again @djjessie228 . I appreciate your advice.
With your input and rainbow’s, I may go back to air dry. Maybe the few problem dolls were just a fluke or because of Luminaires. First batch of their paint worked great but then had a few mess up with next batch. Rainbow has a chart with formulas to match colors but I didn’t purchase many colors in regular acrylics. Soft body ones seem to be great in the few colors I tried. Then I made a half dozen or so with Genesis. Going to have to pull up lara’s books and get a color list. And see what I can do. It would be interesting to make two dolls using her books, one air dry and one Genesis. Just to see the difference.
Ready to just skip birthdays unless kids are around to get excited. I borrow the neighbors’ grandkids sometimes when Catherine isn’t here. Lol, most years I can’t remember how old I am without double checking my math (I am 57). As for booze, can’t drink with meds or with my beliefs plus stuff needs to taste more like nyquil. A little warm burn and less spoiled fruit taste.,.so not too hard to pass up. Just be careful mixing meds and drinks.
