What do you use to seal your babies?

I’m working on my first reborn and I am on the final step of painting and wanted to know what you all use to seal your babies with. I have heard of thinning medium with matte varnish and if matte varnish is used by itself, it can be crusty and ashy. Has anyone had issue with that? I only have matte varnish and will purchase the thinning medium today if that’s the best thing for sealing so that way I can seal it next week when it arrives.

ALSO, what do you use to add the shine to the lips? Thanks in advance.

I use matte or matte mixed with satin. More often matte.

You can use it on its own but pounce it thin and bake 3 times for 10 min. If ashy, it has not baked long or hot enough. Check oven temperature with thermometer. 265 needed.

For gloss, it depends how glossy you want it. Satin can give you a sheen, glaze a slight gloss. Wetter looks can be done with Paper Glaze butI heard some ladies had issues with durability. Pledge floor acrylic is shiny wet look. Some use it for eyes, wet spots on lips.

I love this varnish!! It’s air dry, can be used over GHSP or any air dry paint, and leaves a silky soft finish!

I also use Hunnybuns gloss for the shine on my lips and nails; it gives a subtle shine

i too use the decoart soft touch varnish. I mix mine with a tad a GHSP satin varnish and also golden medium acrylic glazing liquid Satin. I bake it as well a few times to set the satin varnish that is in it.

baking it 3 times meaning 3 layers as well?

Where can I find Pledge floor acrylic? Googled it but a floor cleaner is coming up lol

It is for floors but works great for eyes.

Which of the hunnybuns gloss are you referring to?

wow, does it dry fast?

If you mean the pledge? It doesn’t take long and leaves a beautiful wet look to the eyes.

This one

I use it straight from the jar

Okay, and this is for around the eyes right?

In the eyes to make them glossy.I seal my dolls with the GHSP matte but I mix it in with my last layer of paint.

I heard of that method too. Does it smooth it out? How many layers? How many times and how long do you bake it for?

I bake that last layer 3 times @ 265 for 8 minutes.I don’t do any glossing until I am through baking.I glue my eyes and let them dry, then I use a tiny brush to put the pledge on the eyes. Some people use a dropper but I have better control using a brush.

Walmart last week had it.

Do you bake 3 times in a row? And do you give it time to cool in between bakes?

Yes, let cool. I turn the pieces each time after a bake. If you leave the limbs in one position, it may not bake evenly.
