What do you consider fair pricing?

There has been a big debate in one of my reborn groups, and I am wondering where you ladies stand on it. What do you consider fair pricing? Reborners who have been in the business are frustrated that newbies are coming in, and undermining them by selling babies basically at cost. Supplies obviously aren’t cheap, and we must account for our time and the sharing of our talents. I realize some can donate their time, and if it’s labeled as such, that is amazing. So much praise to those who give your gifts to those truly in need, (like donating to nursing homes and such).
In pricing, I don’t want to offend anyone. I want to know where you stand. Can you tell me what you consider a fair price range for ;

BB inexpensive kits: bald, painted, rooted
Realborns: bald, painted, rooted
Baby Kits $100 and up: bald, painted, rooted

Obviously, our talent levels vary, and some put much more time into a baby than others, but I’d love to see what you think is a good range.
I feel like if we can all bond together on this, we can create a stronger community. Thanks!!

I have been reborning now for about 10 months (kind a newish still) but this is what I am striving to achieve so that my prices can somewhat stay acceptable. Please keep in mind this for less experience then those that have been doing this for years and they should charge more because their experience needs to be considered along with their abilities. Some times I wonder if I pricing my own work to low.

BB inexpensive kits: bald, painted, rooted shouldn’t matter $250.00- $600.00
Realborns: bald, painted, rooted shouldn’t matter $350.00- $800.00
$100.00 and up kits, (most or limited editions) Bald, painted, rooted shouldn’t matter $400.00 -$1000.00
$200.00 kits and up should be $700.00 - $1500.00

This is just my opinion but pricing is ultimately up to the Artist and the customer that is buying the baby to decide not what everyone else thinks.

Maybe fair isn’t exactly the right word. What would you like to see be the industry standard range of pricing?

I think pricing goes by talent of an artist and how long they have been doing the craft. I have seen some ladies on here I would have bought their first baby. I have only been making babies a little over a month and still not very good so I sale mine at lower cost. My cheap BB babies no hair are 175.00 with hair are 250.00 the realborns bald are 225.00 with hair 300.00 kits over 100 start at 300.00-450.00. But like I said you can tell the difference in my babies and other artist who have been reborning for years.

My babies run $250 - $400. I don’t know if it’s fair, but it’s what the market will bear. If I raise my prices, the dolls down’t sell. If the dolls don’t sell, I don’t get to do anymore dolls. That’s the economics of it for me.

Hey, any price you list them at is great as long as you profit, right? So why not use eBay’s auction option? (Tongue twister, I know). I have started all my babies at the price it costs for the supplies, and they have sold for much more!! I’ve seen older artists do this as well, and their babies were quite top notch.

BB inexpensive kits: Always start at $40-$50 (most sell for well over $100)
Realborns: Always at $60 (most sell well over $150)
I have never bought a kit over $100, nor have I ever bought a kit not from BB…
I like the auction style because then people pay what they think is fair, and I don’t have to decide that. I also typically will raise the price if I have included special items for the baby to go home with.

I relate to people that can’t afford that much, so I like to keep the prices low but the quality high. I put almost a month into each baby I make (depending on whether or not I’m working or in school this varies). But I have wanted a Twin A for so long, and can’t afford anything over $225…I guess that just means I’d have to make my own, right? But then I miss out on the box opening stuff, and the blanket reveal, and for me that’s the one of the best parts!
No hate, arguing, complaining, or negative replies please. I’m not in the mood for that today.

Every time I have put any of my babies for Auction on ebay with the starting price being at my cost I get non paying bidders and this is even from people that have a lot of feed back so that doesn’t work for me at all so I will just set my own price, I have much better luck that way.

Okay. I respect your opinion. Did you know that you can block bidders who have bad payment history? You can also file a claim against them for a full refund.

Yes, but they come in hoards and are a pain to deal with. In the meantime, a true interested party will move on and find another baby while yours is tied up with the non-paying bidder.

Sorry Marissa don’t mean to hijack your thread. But when you all price your babies, example like on reborns.com, do you do free shipping? Or add extra for shipping. If so what is your shipping cost. I had one lady that was upset because I was charging 15.00 for shipping.

Really? Unless you bump your shipping cost (charge more than it’s costing you) she has no reason to be upset. I shipped a toddler with tons of extras and it cost the buyer almost $30!!

Again, your opinion. Can we all just be a little more positive? I need some happiness in life right now. I need smiles, I need puppy breath (puppy owners will understand).

Yes, Amy’s opinion. I think she has the right to state hers like you did yours, eh? No one is trying to be negative on purpose. Just stating their differing opinion and experience so everyone who reads this can make their own decision and opinion. I like to read about different sides.

Btw, sorry you’re having a rough day. Here’s my furbaby Jessie just for you.

Nice system, @lambkinsreborn. @westernstarr has a similar pricing chart. Maybe she’ll stop by and add to this, too.

She is gorgeous!! Dachsand mix? Or just a long haired girlie? Awwhh… Thank you.

@izzy Jessie is adorable!! What kind of mix is she? (Sorry, I am like obsessed with dogs!!)

Here are mine:
Buddy – Lab Australian Sheperd and a little bit of unknown, about 13 or 14 years old… (I took this a few months ago before he was brushed, so he’s not that chubby because most of his chub is fur)

Champ – Boston terrier shi tzu mix *my baby about 14 or 15 years old. (I took this picture about a week ago, but he is getting a shave soon…don’t tell him)

Thank you guys again, your fur babies made my day a bit better. :relieved:
