What Causes the Finger tips and Toes to Turn Dark?

I have a customer, who is always having issues with dolls I made for her. This never happens with anyone else. Well, the latest is that the finger tips and toes on her Libby are turning blue/black. I’ve never had this problem before, but I’ve heard of it happening. What causes this? Can it be fixed? I only use fine glass beads to weight the limbs.
This doll also has significant hair loss on the base of her head. I’ve never had anyone else tell me their doll lost hair except for her. I used nearly a full tube of E6000 to glue it and I am always extremely careful to make sure the inside of the head where it’s been rooted is well covered and dried.
I always send a very detailed care sheet with my dolls. have told this person repeatedly that reborn dolls are not toys. At what point should I tell someone that I cannot keep doing repair. I have family, a full time job, and other dolls to work on.

That is a mystery. It cannot be anything from inside, as fingers are solid, not hollow. Some people suggested mold growing inside, but if that was that case it would come through elsewhere. Others thought that the fingers came in contact with dark fabric. Without seeing photos it is too hard to judge.

If hair is coming out she is breaking it off, somehow…

I would assume that the color is due to transfer from fabrics. Either from what she is dressing baby in, the blanket she is using or even her own clothing.

I would bet, dark fabric, or some hyper-pigmented material of some sort, has come in contact with fingers.

If it’s only happening with one of your customers then it’s definitely something she’s doing and not anything you did. As already stated, dark clothing is probably the culprit.

I have a pair of darkly pigmented jeans from Old Navy that stains my fingers every time I wear them and they’ve been washed multiple times. There was a label on them warning of color transfer like many jeans do now, but I’ve never had it this bad. I actually scared myself one day when I saw my blue hands. Definitely don’t sit on light colored fabric furniture with these. And keep them away from reborns!

I would tell the client that the staining is caused by dark fabrics, printed or colored papers, or colored plastic bags coming into contact with the dolls hands. Tell her you can’t continue fixing the damage she is doing to the doll for free and if she wishes to have it repainted you will charge her X amount.

That being said, using a damp Mr. Clean Eraser gently might get rid of all the stain. But GENTLY or the paint will come off.

Yes, it’s jeans alright. I should take a pic sometime when I wear those things. I’ll show you my hands after wearing them for a short time. It’s especially bad if I wear hand cream. I wash my hands a lot, so it doesn’t take that long for the color to transfer, either. If I didn’t like the color so much I’d have thrown them out.

Thanks, ladies!!! I’ll mention this to her. In my written care instructions, I tell them to launder all clothing before putting them on the dolls. I never thought about denim, but it makes sense since denim continues to fade every time it’s washed.

Remember, it doesn’t have to be something on the doll. It could be the owner wearing denim.

Only in reborning would a client think so often that when she damages something the seller should fix it.

I mean, if I stain my jeans, I don’t go back to the store and try to get them to remove the stain or imply it’s their fault

Are all the fingers and toes evenly dark?
