Normally I use glass beads, poly pellets to weight… in the limbs I fill the hands and feet with glass beads and up to the elbow with pellets, the rest with fiberfil. I’m almost out of pellets and was wondering how everyone else does it…I’m also wondering if I filled the entire limbs with glass beads if that would make them too heavy…I have plenty of the beads…
I never use pellets in the limbs, long term they interact with the vinyl, (chemically, just as latex does). Pellets in the body in a nylon or sock not directly on vinyl. Glass beads in hands and feet up to the elbow. Then fiber fil the rest. If too heavy, I alternate beads, fill, beads, fill for a more realistic distribution…
Glass beads up to the elbow/knee then stuffed with polyfil, and plugged.
I do as you do but go up a little farther with the Poly Pellets because I do not like the way the glass beads feel in the arms and legs (personal preference). But I also like the 3/4 bodies, lol.
Baby Fat pellets are the ones that react to the vinyl not Poly Pellets. I think everyone else fills it as @jlesser does.
Someone said to fill the arms and legs like we do and put a ball of glass beads at the top to even the weight of the arm to make it feel more realistic. Haven’t tried it yet though.
I use glass up to just below the elbow and knee, stuff in a small ball of polyfil, pour in more glass beads up to the rim and then work a polyfil into the top of the limb. Then I weight with a combo of pellets and glass in the body. The head is stuffed with pellets in a nylon and polyfil.
I usually use all glass beads too. I fill to about the elbow or knee with beads and then add polyfil. You can also add more higher up like others have said.
I tend to use the poly pellets only in the head.
I have used poly pellets mixed with glass beads in the limbs for 9 years and never had a reaction.
@ttulsajess putting the poly fill in the knees and elbows sound like a good idea, it will give a little bend to those areas.
I think it is so amazing how we all fill them so different. No ones way is the right way, like the dishwasher, lol!
some people use steel shot in the preemie heads instead of glass beads
thanks ladies! is steel shot like beebees?
It does allow for bend and a little extra poseability. You just have to make sure you roll the limbs around some while pressing the polyfil into the top of the limb because once the glass beads settle there can be an empty space as the beads filter through the polyfil.
I’ll continue to use the Poly pellets, they should be ok. Can’t wait to try that.
Yes, but if you use shot- be certain it’s not at risk of rusting if the doll is in a damp place! There are stainless shot available I hear.
