Varnish issues!

My varnish does not want to take. It’s weird… I tried my normal mix… And it did nothing, still shiny. Then… I have been over with just the matte… Minus the rest… And still… Nothing!!! I can’t even feel any texture, and it’s not helping with shine. I haven’t encounter this before. Any ideas? The first layer… I used a mix of satin, matte with a tad of flesh. Second time around… Matte alone straight from the jar. What is going on? They are newer jars… What else can I try?

I think if it flakes, you need another bake! Mine just seems like I didn’t use it. I bet it’s because they changed the forumla. I think it’s best to use just the satin now… Figures, I’m out of my satin now!!’ :scream::scream::scream:

Yes, beautifully. I never use matte.

I used a new container of matte that I used on my last two dolls and it worked fine. I mix it with satin and flesh.

Maybe you just need to bring that jar here to make it work right.

Have you tried a second coat of Matte…Sometimes if you do a very thin coat of matte, you will get the chalky even after a couple of bakes and need to do a second coat…I know some ladies are worried about it being a less smooth but these are artist dolls and not play ones so sometimes you have to sacrifice some of the feel for realism…Seriously, if you look at pictures of real babies, other than the T zone, unless they have been slathered in oil or lots of lotion for their photos or they are in a hot humid environment that makes them sweat, their skin is not shiny because they are not that oily…(that is why we have to grease them up after their baths…lol) SOOOO my point being…maybe a second matte layer will fix the shine for you Nikki and the chalky for you Jennifer??? Just keep it thin…sort of like you layer your paint…several thin layers…just a thought???

I think I jinxed myself… lol
Spots on my babies head wouldn’t hold varnish. I added matte varnish to the spots again then tried the prisma… it wouldn’t write on certain spots… so I revarnished the spots again… then after it cooled I tried again with the pencil… still wouldnt stick… so I thought hmmm maybe I will try another pencil… the little bit darker colored pencil wrote fine… weird. A little lighter than I wanted but now baby has some hair. lol
Think I will try to darken it a little more today.

I guess I need to buy all new varnish. I think I will just go with the satin because I don’t like the new matte formula. Where is it that I can buy the big jar again please?
