UPS charges

I usually ship USPS bc it’s so close (3 miles) to drop packages off and I actually get cheaper quotes from them than UPS…..which is a half hour drive for me. :winking_face_with_tongue:

My last customer, who lives in MN, specifically requested UPS as she has had issues with USPS leaving packages by her garage door in the rain and snow.

I ship all my packages with Signature Confirmation which pretty much guarantees personal delivery….but she still wanted UPS so….

The UPS quote was a little over $12 more than the USPS quote.

The package weighed 7 lb 12 oz and I calculated costs for 8 lb

This morning I have a notice from UPS of additional charges….to my PayPal account of $3 more….not a big deal……but it’s the point of thing :woman_shrugging:…..stating the package weighed 10 lbs and was an inch bigger in Height and Width than I had listed.

Just checked and my scales are not off…..the box was Uline 12x12x8. (Which is printed right in the bottom)

I just think it’s a little weird…..and I’ll probably not ship UPS again.

OR I will get the quote and NOT pay online…..just pay when I get to the UPS and see what they say when it hits the scale

Makes me think of that guy on Tik Tok my cousin told me about that has been going into Walmart and weighing the prepackaged meat products….many are coming up short….sly way to increase profits

I use Pirate ship and ship UPS all the time. It is almost always cheaper than USPS and in my area more reliable.

This happened to me recently. I got an email charging my account an extra few bucks because they said my box dimensions were different than I reported, which they were not. It is an easy fix. UPS states in the email they send you that they use an automated package sorter which can make mistakes so if you feel it is wrong you can appeal the decision. It is very easy to do and they reversed the charges a few days after I filed the appeal and I got my money back.

I had an additional charge on a return package. I used the weight and box it came to me in to return it, but UPS said it was longer and wider than my measurements by less than an inch so it incurred an additional charge. I think like Gina that it was $3.00. I use Pirate Ship and choose the cheapest way to send.

So what is Pirate ship? Is it like an online site?

EDITED:

I looked it up

I am going to check it out for my next baby that sells:grin:

I had heard it mentioned here before but never really even paid attention to what it was :joy:

I add it happen with USPS a few years ago. I had to pay the extr charge before they would let me use my account again. The buyer had already gotten it, etc.
It was a Landon. They said it was a bigger box than I put… but I put the measurements on the box…

The measurements listed on the boxes are usually the inside dimensions of the shipping area. That means that the outside dimensions of box is bigger. I would suggest actually measuring the outside and see if this is what is causing the extra charges.

Pirate ship is great but be careful using them for international shipping. If there is a problem w/ delivery you have no say over the package. Because it is shipped under PS account it is technically their package in the eyes of customs. Long story buy I shipped a doll to a repeat customer in Thailand by UPS through PS and there was an issue in customs. They would not entertain me because to them I was not the account holder, PS was. They needed someone from PS to contact them but PS would not do it. Said they do not get involved like that, it is how they keep prices low and sent me to their help page to download any forms customs was requesting. The form I needed to submit called for some PIN number PS has on file w/ customs to verify the account, PS would not give it to me or send it to customs on my behalf. It was a 2 month long nightmare. Thailands customs office said they planned to destroy the box because I could not provide the account number. My customer did some daily calling on her end too and by some miracle it all worked out in the end and they let her come get the box. I will never use PS again for any shipping outside the US. The langauge barrier was also very frustrating and I spent 2 hours a day on the phone with Thailands customs office and the UPS people there. I surly learned the hard way so hopefully I will spare some of you ladies an ordeal!

I always ship through my PayPal account! I usually get 40-50% off regular prices through that and often find that UPS is cheaper. And if you’re shipping after making a sale, it already has the buyer’s confirmed address in it. I’ve never had any issues

How is that done through PayPal. If it’s too complicated to explain, just tell me and I’ll look on my PayPal account.

If you go into your PayPal account (im on my phone right now, but I’m sure it’s easier on a computer), in the managing business section there is an option for PayPal shipping. You can also get there by clicking on the details for a payment you’ve received. One of the choices is “ship.” Take a look and if you can’t find it, tell me what kind of device you’re using and I’ll take screenshots

thank you very much.

Good to know but I no longer ship out of the US.
