This past month was my first time ever using the site. I joined 7 months ago but this past month paid the $20 to list my Kai, who had sat on eBay for almost 5 months (my dolls rarely ever sat more than one or two listings) and then another four months at a local consigment shop (even though he got tons of attention and some fans). Then I listed him on FB Marketplace while simulataneously listing him on Reborns, and after three weeks a local woman contacted me via FB and wanted to meet up so she could see him in person. She fell in love with him instantly and paid cash for him. She’s totally thrilled with him still, two weeks later. I was so happy. But as far as Reborns, I don’t think Kai got much exposure on there and I’m not happy about that. He needs to fix things for us seller or it’s not worth it for us, and he will lose business. He needs to really think about that and make some good decisions. I won’t re-list on there again until I have at least 3 dolls to list, to make it possibly more worth the while.
If items can be set to automatically Feature how is that different from the Just Listed ones that rotate anyway?
I use Reborns only around Christmas and have been on there for 10 years. I liked the Bronze, Silver and Gold system because it kept things affordable - you could pay what level fit your budget and was easier to be on there year round. Over the years, we have complained that Dave got a little money hungry. Yes, this sort of platform is probably expensive to run. But, there are 710 listed nurseries on Reborns, currently. If only 500 of those pay the lowest monthly fee, that’s almost 10K going to Dave a month (minus the cost to run the site). If these 500 pay the new raised fee, that’s almost 15K a month for him. I’m from Canada and this will cost us $40 a month, now. That’s a lot of money for dolls that stay on the front page for only a couple hours and even with the featured credits, they were bumped off after 3-4 hours.
These days, I only list my lower cost dolls on Reborns. I quickly learned that the majority of people who buy from there are purchasing as a first reborn or as a gift for a child (despite our warnings that these are not toys). Very few have any idea what goes into creating these dolls or how the kits can vary in price. They go onto Reborns, find dolls that appeal to them and chose the cheaper one. They don’t understand that a Bountiful Baby kit can be purchased for as low as $20 and a high end kit can be well over $100…they just see 2 dolls that are painted in a style they like and one is under $400 and the other is $900 or more - so they choose the more reasonably priced one. I am one of those people who wait for BB sales and buy a year’s worth of kits and paint them when I can. Those I sell at Christmas on Reborns. Anything more expensive/collectable (or any kit not bought from BB, for that matter) I sell off of Reborns - often to repeat or word of mouth customers. When I tried selling my expensive reborns on there, they would sit and sit - with people asking for all sorts of discounts. So, in my opinion only, Reborns is more suited to those who sell low, only reborn BB kits or don’t mind having their high-end reborns sit on there for months and months in hopes of that special buyer coming along.
I dunno where to put this but I just read something about Casey, the creator of Only Reborns stole her page set up info from reborns dot com? Really???
I haven’t heard that. But I wouldn’t be surprised.
Where else do you sell? It seems like all the other sites want a percentage of the sale.
That was what Dave claims but the two sites look nothing alike and only reborns is confusing and difficult to navigate
Yeah, I don’t know about that, she does have some of the same details options, like dropdown menus to select what materials you used in the baby and if the baby has full limbs, 3/4 etc… but using both I can say the only similarities in listing a doll are reborn specific options. The actual listing process and menu are nothing alike at all.
I’ll have to build up my kit stash again and finish some more babies, I don’t find the price of membership is worth it to me when I only have one doll listed and I definitely don’t self-advertise well enough to keep my nursery free.
*i really enjoy this website, yes the 14$ shipping is a little high, they have things i can’t find anywhere else. *
So ill try and stay with Bountiful Baby!!!
This thread is about the Reborns selling website, not Bountiful Baby.
I’m still seeing second hand dolls appearing in the “Artist Reborns” section on the front page.
I noticed that too, but that is the seller fault, not the site.
I really like the new tabs. Much more noticeable than the drop down menu.
I do like it too!
I like the whole set up much better now.
I have to go and check it out.
The one thing I don’t like is that Dave is not grandfathering your membership in if you’ve already paid past March. You have to pay the extra amount to be able to feature anything and if you don’t feature anything or have nothing new to list you are never on the front page and might as well have a free membership. This makes all the time you have already paid for your membership useless. I know he said he’d refund you but sucks that something already paid for is useless before the time paid for is actually up.
I have renewed my membership a month ago for two months, at the old rate, and I have been able to feature. He will refund the credits you still have in stock.
