Time for a change for 2025

This may not be a popular decision, but I’m going to stop adding magnetic pacifiers to my reborns. I think that its just a hazard and it’s just that more work. I’ll add that statement on my reborns listings. Simpler is better

I stopped using pacifiers a while back. Some times it is impossible to add one for some sculpts. Once in a while I might consider using one if the sculpt would benefit from one example being a less than beautiful set of lips.

Hi Mary, SO good to see you here… would love to start seeing some of your babies again. Always loved seeing them…

I haven’t done any for the the last four dolls or so. They tend to take the varnish and paint off over time, too, as I’ve heard. Not sure if buyers are as crazy about them as they used to be.

I’m glad to know I’m not alone. I hope it doesn’t deter buyers even more lol. But it’s just too much of a hassle.

Pacifiers add realism, IMHO, so I’ll keep doing them.

Me too…

Especially that magnets in most heads are so easy to do.

I agree. It’s nice to have the option. I usually only include one or two pics of my babies with pacis in a listing, but people always comment on them and love them. A lady bought my Spencer a few weeks ago after seeing him with his paci.

And after I took a few pics of Landon with his pacifier I fell in love with him.

They’re not make or break for me personally if I were a buyer, but in over 6 years of selling I’ve never had a customer not want one.

I don’t add them often. I will do if a customer ask for it.

Not making the dolls now of course but I rarely ever used them unless a customer specifically ordered it… I have had people ask if I would add one in the past and when first started selling and I was selling to the public I would oblige but after a few years I would decline but it never deterred the sale so I think it just depends on the buyer. They should be buying your doll for your artistry in my opinion though I know that there are a lot of buyers that can not see past the fancy clothes…haha! SO if you want to invest a bit extra for a sell, add an extra outfit or make your main one a stunner.

I have done only 2 reborn babies, both with pacifiers, just because it remind me of my baby brothers and sister when growing up. It adds to the baby innocences look. Both of your points are valid, the danger for someone with a heart condition and the extra work!

I have decided the same, but I’ll send them with poster putty instead or just uncut ones. I think they’re adorable props, but selling things with magnets has always made me really nervous.

One of the most compelling videos I’ve seen on Facebook in a reborn group was a sweet box opening. It was an experienced collector mom, and she was opening a new doll with her daughter who was about 4. The mom was holding the camera and standing right there, she had one hand free so she could touch the doll and her daughter, the other holding the camera. As she was unboxing the doll she took out a magnetized pacifier and her daughter immediately grabbed it and put it in her mouth. The mom responded within seconds and told her no, but just proved to me that magnets on pacifiers really isn’t safe. It’s a temptation.

I would still maybe consider adding a magnet inside the head for the buyer to use with their own pacifiers, if they understood the risks, or maybeeee send ones that are manufactured to have the magnet enclosed in plastic like PD sell only, but to people who don’t have kids or pets like dogs. I only feel safe having them around my pets because my cats are really picky and don’t eat things, and even still they aren’t allowed near the magnetic ones.

I put one in if the lips can support a magnetic paci. I offer to take it out on request, but never had anyone request it.

I use a circular drill bit to make a hole that the magnet drops inside held with E600. Makes it completely flush. Then I cover with circular cut moleskin. There’s no way a child could get the magnet out. I once glued the magnet in backwards and could not dig it out with a screwdriver.
