This is funny

So i was enjoying the afternoon looking at some old porcelain doll magazines. Turned it over and saw this.

Anyone else recognize her?

OH yes. All those old Donna Rubert sculpts BB bought rights to were originally porcelain molds. This is why they are so “dolly” looking and do not have the same look of sculpted for reborns babies or realborn babies.

Taylor?

Maybe Chanel?

Yep. Taylor.

All of these are originally rupert porcelain molds.

Im curious to see which molds of these if any i have in what i was given.

Yeah, seeing those is so funny. Especially because they don’t look as realistic as we’re used to with reborns.

Im really hoping there is a stinker in my porcelain molds. He would make a perfect Chucky to my vinyl Tiffany i made.

If you own the molds and choose to make dolls for your own collection, I’m not sure why it would get you into legal trouble. I’m assuming that’s why the molds were made available in the first place. If you were making them to sell, that’s a legal gray area that you would have to check into first. You might need some kind of license.

See that is such a weird thing to sell the porcelain molds… what if they started selling vinyl molds  or silicone to make our own… that might be the way to get around the expense :rofl::rofl:

Could you use a porcelain doll mold to make a “silicone doll”?

No. I dont think so. Porcelain molds are absorbent and give off a lot of dust. And if i tried to use say…a Porcelain head to mold i would lose detail because it would be a mold of a mold.

Let me explain.

Porcelain is wet at first. And poured into the molds. The plaster pulls the moisture from the Porcelain mix and leaves behind semi moist Porcelain peices that are then painted and fired in the kiln.

While it is a mold it wouldn’t work for silicone due to the simple nature of the plaster. It would be a gross mess. I think.

Legally i have the right to use the molds and sell the dolls. Yep.

As far as making Porcelain dolls from molds-----that is why you buy the molds. I have a massive amount of doll molds from years ago when I use to make Porcelain dolls. I bought them from a huge doll show that was held in Anaheim CA (across from Disneyland) each year. I managed to collect a lot of them, from small size to large size, I loved that hobby when I was involved in it. I have many of the molds that you used to see in “Doll Crafter” magazine (and others). Molds were purchased with the specific intention of selling the dolls you created from them OR you culd also pour Greenware and sell it to others.
